Elke Flores Suber, Esq., Chief Legal and People Officer at Community.com, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements and leadership in the Legal Field.
Ms. Suber has established herself in law and business, currently serving as the chief legal and people officer at Community.com, a leading SMS customer engagement platform, since 2023. In this capacity, she manages all legal and compliance matters across the enterprise, oversees the intellectual property portfolio, privacy and data management, and employment issues, and oversees litigation. Additionally, Ms. Suber leads a team responsible for people operations, human resources partners across the business, and recruiting and talent development for the company.
Before her current role, Ms. Suber was the director and associate general counsel for product legal at Meta from 2021 to 2023. She provided strategic legal guidance on product development and regulatory compliance for one of the world’s leading technology companies.
From 2019 to 2021, Ms. Suber served as both an associate general counsel and a partner for global partner solutions at Microsoft. Her tenure at Microsoft spanned over 15 years, beginning in 2005 as an attorney in Redmond, Washington. She advanced through several roles, including senior attorney for Windows Live from 2008 to 2012, assistant general counsel and senior attorney for Microsoft Store between 2012 and 2016, and assistant general counsel for Microsoft Store from 2016 to 2019. During this period, she became the first partner in the legal department and was recognized as the most senior Black woman in that division. Ms. Suber is particularly proud of her leadership of the Consumer Devices team and the Microsoft Store, as well as the partnerships she developed in those areas.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Suber served as intellectual property counsel at Cigna Healthcare in Philadelphia from 2002 to 2005, where she managed intellectual property matters for a major health care provider. She was previously an associate at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP between 2000 and 2002 and at Anderson Kill & Olick P.C., now Anderson Kill P.C., from 1998 to 2000.
Ms. Suber began her professional journey as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Justin M. Johnson at the Superior Court of Pennsylvania from 1996 to 1997 and then for the Honorable Gary L. Lancaster at the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania between 1997 and 1998. These formative experiences provided invaluable mentorship and shaped her approach to law.
Ms. Suber’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Science from Slippery Rock University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Pittsburgh. She further enhanced her expertise with a certificate in marketing leadership from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston. Ms. Suber also earned a law and institutions of the European Union certificate through study abroad at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Brussels and a German studies and language certificate through study abroad at the Universität Salzburg.
Ms. Suber is actively involved in numerous professional organizations. She has held multiple leadership positions with the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association, including chair, president and secretary, and has contributed as an advisory panelist on intellectual property for the American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education for five years. Ms. Suber is also a member of the advisory committee for the American Bar Association’s entertainment and sports section, a fellow of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity and a member of the National Bar Association.
Civically engaged, Ms. Suber has been a board member of the Girl Scouts of Western Washington since 2019. She also serves as the board’s secretary and is a member of its executive committee. Ms. Suber’s commitment to education is reflected in her ongoing roles on the board of visitors for the school of law at the University of Pittsburgh since 2014 and on the board of directors for O’Dea High School since 2020.
Ms. Suber has contributed thought leadership through publications in her field. She has also delivered commencement addresses at both the school of law at the University of Pittsburgh and Slippery Rock University.
Ms. Suber’s achievements have been recognized with several honors, including being named a Microsoft Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Fellow in 2011, being selected among Nation’s Best Advocates Top 40 Under 40 by National Bar Association and IMPACT in 2012, earning a Distinguished Alumni Award from Slippery Rock University in 2017, receiving Entertainment Lawyer of the Year by the entertainment, sports and arts section of the National Bar Association in 2017, and being named one of Savoy Magazine’s Most Influential Black Lawyers in 2018.
Ms. Suber discovered her passion for legal practice early on. Eager for the future, she intends to continue advancing her career as a chief legal officer while supporting senior executives and boards. She also plans to expand her involvement with nonprofit organizations by serving as a board adviser.
