He currently excels as group general counsel of strategic resolutions at Kiewit Corporation, a position he has held since 2021. In this capacity, he engages with senior management, updating them on the issues faced and collaboratively developing innovative solutions, mentors the team and guides them on key tasks and strategies, collaborates with a dynamic team of lawyers, both in-house and outside counsel, assigned to various matters, and handles all dispute resolutions and claims development.
Mr. Hecker’s experience also includes serving as group general counsel of claims and litigation at Kiewit Corporation from 2017 to 2023, district attorney at Kiewit Corporation from 2003 to 2017, partner at Kutak Rock LLP from 2000 to 2003, and partner at Woods Aitken LLP from 1991 to 1998. Laying a solid educational foundation, he earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1989 and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His bar admissions include the Nebraska State Bar Association, Colorado Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He has also dedicated his time as a member of the board of directors for Opera Omaha from 2013 to 2023, board president for Voices for Children in Nebraska from 2009 to 2013, and board member for The Grassland Foundation Inc. from 2011 to 2012.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Hecker has benefited greatly from the guidance of exceptional mentors who nurtured his interest in law. Their support inspired his passion for the field, particularly in his area of expertise, where he finds true enjoyment in practicing law. Throughout his career, he has achieved several notable accomplishments, including leading the legal organization of a Fortune 250 company, competing in the Nebraska One Box Pheasant Hunt, being honored for fundraising efforts with various charity organizations, and earning a distinguished designation from Martindale-Hubbell. He attributes his success to a mindset of continuous improvement, viewing each day as an opportunity to grow, embrace new experiences, and tackle challenges. Growing up in a modest setting, he learned early on to appreciate the wealth of possibilities before him. This upbringing inspired him to step outside his comfort zone and pursue new opportunities, shaping his approach to life and work.
In the coming years, Mr. Hecker is focused on nurturing a successor within the company. He is actively mentoring several individuals, providing them with valuable opportunities for growth to ensure their experiences are both enriching and insightful. Additionally, he aims to balance his professional responsibilities with dedicating quality time to his grandchildren and family while exploring meaningful ways to contribute to his community.
