Company: Lord Law Group PLLC
Location: New York, New York, United States

Masai I. Lord, Esq., founding partner at Lord Law Group PLLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal services.

With a decade of experience to his credit, Mr. Lord has established a successful career in legal services, specializing in civil rights law and employment discrimination. He currently excels as a founding partner of Lord Law Group PLLC, a position he has held since 2020. In this role, he leads the firm, consistently handling inquiries from individuals seeking justice for civil rights violations, sexual harassment, disability discrimination, gender discrimination, LGBT discrimination, racial discrimination, wrongful prosecution, and wrongful convictions. His experience also includes serving as founding partner of Lord & Schewel PLLC from 2018 to 2020 and senior staff attorney at The Legal Aid Society of NYC from 2014 to 2018.

Mr. Lord began his legal career as a student attorney at The Legal Aid Society from 2013 to 2014. He has also dedicated his time as former president of the Black Law Student Association and former chairman of the Faculty and Student Life Committee at the School of Law, St. John’s University. Additionally, he is a member of the American Association for Justice, National Black Lawyers Association, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Laying a solid educational foundation, he earned his Juris Doctor from the School of Law, St. John’s University in 2014 and is admitted to the Southern District of New York and the Eastern District of New York.

Reflecting on his path, Mr. Lord has been deeply inspired by his father, a lawyer who managed his own law firm for 20 years. He admired his father’s success growing up, while also drawing inspiration from his mother, a reading specialist and educator. Both parents instilled in him the importance of service and helping others. He has developed a passion for law, appreciating the unique challenges and competition that come with it, as no two cases are ever the same. He values working with real people, particularly his clients, and maintaining strong relationships with them. He takes great pride in serving as counsel for a $12.6 million settlement on behalf of protesters who were mistreated by the New York City Police Department in 2020. Each protester was awarded $20,000, and the NYPD and the City Department of Operations have committed to reforms and additional officer training in handling protests.

In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Lord was named a Top 40 Under 40 Lawyer by the National Black Lawyers Association in 2023 and 2024, and he has been recognized as a Civil Rights Super Lawyer in 2022, 2023, and 2024. He attributes his success to his unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional work, a value instilled in him by his parents. Looking to the future, he is eager to expand his successful practice into two or three more states, with plans for growth in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and beyond. Additionally, he aims to create a network for professionals in his field, addressing the significant barriers to entry in the legal community, with plans to establish a mentorship program to help aspiring attorneys launch their own practices or specialize in specific areas of law.
