Reflecting on his path, Mr. Hoffman excelled as a manager in the freight business before transitioning to a career in law. In 1988, when his eldest son was diagnosed with severe hemophilia during the challenging era of AIDS and the Hemophilia Holocaust, he felt compelled to take action. Moved by the need to advocate not only for his son but also for others facing similar hardships, he became determined to protect those impacted by the devastating effects of AIDS and other blood-transmitted diseases. This drive led him to pursue a legal career, and in 1990, he enrolled in law school. By 1994, he was deeply involved in litigating hemophilia HIV cases, making significant strides in mass tort litigation. During this time, he discovered the alarming reality that public school nurses were denying children with hemophilia essential infusion services, and that these children were being excluded from private Montessori preschools. This revelation sparked his passion for advocating for the rights of children with disabilities, particularly their right to receive a free and appropriate education.
Since 1996, Mr. Hoffman has been a dedicated advocate for parents of children with special needs, working tirelessly to ensure they receive the appropriate educational support. His expertise spans a wide range of responsibilities, including attending Committee on special education meetings, developing individualized education plans, managing impartial hearings, submitting appeals to the state review officer, and, when necessary, pursuing federal lawsuits to protect the rights of children with disabilities. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with a diverse group of specialists, including audiologists, behavior analysts, developmental pediatricians, and therapists, to provide comprehensive support for families. Additionally, he has fostered strong partnerships with private therapeutic schools to ensure access to top-tier programs for children with special needs. He attributes his success to his dedication, relentless drive, and unyielding passion for advocating for the rights of children with special needs. Looking to the future, he has no plans of slowing down or retiring and envisions himself continuing in his current pursuits.
