Mr. Shelat is an esteemed attorney and the founding senior partner at TheBajLawGroup, a boutique law firm based in Washington, D.C., focusing on immigration, criminal defense and business law. Since launching his firm in 2023, he has been devoted to sharing his philosophy of helping others and making a difference instead of being profit-driven.
In addition to managing his practice, Mr. Shelat is raising awareness about his nonprofit organization, Ambassador To The World, an organization devoted to promoting the study of international relations, diplomacy cultural exchange and international law throughout the U.S. and worldwide, empowering individuals to represent their cultures and to unite people through shared values. Mr. Shelat is presently assembling a team of experts to continue expanding to help more individuals.
Before becoming an entrepreneur as the founder of TheBajLawGroup, Mr. Shelat initially garnered experience in the field as a law clerk for the trial division with the Public Service Defender Service for D.C. in 2020. He also served as an artificial intelligence litigation analyst at Wolters Kluwer in 2022 and a litigation review attorney at Robert Half Inc. in 2022. Moreover, Mr. Shelt was a freelance attorney from 2022 to 2023.
Mr. Shelat held various other positions before passing the bar. From 2019 to 2020, he was an energy research associate at the Institute of Energy and Environment, Vermont Law and Graduate School. He also became comfortable in the classroom as a teaching assistant at Vermont Law and Graduate School between 2019 and 2020. Among other roles, he completed various internships.
Mr. Shelat received a Bachelor of Science in information systems and operations management from George Mason University in 2016 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in energy law, cyber law, litigation, trial and appellate law from the Vermont Law & Graduate School in 2020. He was admitted to practice by the D.C. Bar Association. He also holds several professional credentials, including advanced VITA/TCE tax preparation through the IRS and cybersecurity through Northern Virginia Community College.
Active in his professional community, Mr. Shelat was the founder and president of the National Security & Technology Law Association from 2018 to 2020. He remains affiliated with the D.C. Bar Association. Civically, he is working to establish a legal nonprofit, in partnership with TheBajLawGroup, to create a more equitable and accessible legal education academy and provide training to paralegals. Mr. Shelat has also volunteered with Inova and the Public Defender Service and has begun offering one-hour, free consultations at his firm. He has also taken on three pro bono cases since its establishment.
A well-written writer, Mr. Shelat authored an article in Energy Clinic, Vermont Law and Graduate School, in 2020. He has also become recognized for his accolades, including a George Award for contributions to diplomacy, international law and pro bono work through Ambassador To The World in 2024 and a Certificate of Appreciation from Horizon International Consulting & Strategic Study in 2024.
