With over three and a half decades of experience, Mr. Gebert has established a successful career in legal services, specializing in criminal and family law, civil litigation, and county law. He currently excels as the owner of Kent J. Gebert, Attorney at Law, where he has served as an attorney since 2015. His experience includes working as an attorney for the Montgomery County Public Defender’s Office from 2022 to 3, the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance from 2014 to 2015, and as deputy chief assistant public defender for the County of Schenectady from 2007 to 2014. Prior to these roles, he ran his own law practice from 1991 to 2006 and worked as an associate attorney at Pentak, Brown and Tobin from 1988 to 1990. Earlier in his career, he served as assistant district attorney for Schoharie County from 1987 to 1988 and as an associate attorney at Parshall and West, Attorneys from 1987 to 1988.
Laying a solid educational foundation, Mr. Gebert earned a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from Siena College in 1984, followed by a Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law in 1987. Reflecting on his path, he initially considered graduate school during his undergraduate studies to increase his earning potential but ultimately chose law school. His decision was entirely his own, uninfluenced by his predominantly physician family. He attributes his success to perseverance and determination, acknowledging that, despite limited alternatives, people often question his career choices. Over the years, he explored various jobs, including working in food service and a brief stint at McDonald’s, but ultimately found tremendous success as an attorney. Looking to the future, he is focused on securing a comfortable retirement for himself and his wife of 32 years, as they are eager to make the most of their remaining years by traveling.
