With more than 50 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Schochor has excelled as the chairman of Schochor & Staton, P.A. since 2022. Prior to assuming this position, he had found success as a senior managing partner with Schochor, Federico & Staton, P.A., between 1984 and 2022. He previously served as an associate with Ellin & Baker in Baltimore, Maryland from 1974 to 1984. Mr. Schochor began his career as an associate with McKenna, Wilkinson & Kittner in Washington, D.C. from 1971 to 1974.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Schochor pursued an education at The Pennsylvania State University, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1968. He subsequently concluded his studies at the American University Washington College of Law, graduating in 1971 with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. In addition to these accomplishments, he has been admitted to practice law by the American Bar Association, the Bar Association of Baltimore City, the Maryland State Bar Association and the District of Columbia Bar. Likewise, Mr. Schochor has represented cases before the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Beyond his primary responsibilities within the field, Mr. Schochor has been recruited as an expert witness for state legislature, a guest legal expert for a number of radio and television programs and a law lecturer at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. A supporter of the Kristin Rita Strouse Foundation, he has also contributed to two scholarship endowments at the University of Pennsylvania. He has been additionally active as a board member for the Life and Breath Foundation and the former editor-in-chief for the American University Law Review. Moreover, Mr. Schochor has been affiliated with the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists, the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the American Association for Justice and the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association, the latter of which appointed him to multiple administrative posts.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Schochor has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. Celebrated among the Best Lawyers in America in 2016, he was likewise recognized as the Baltimore Medical Malpractice Law Plaintiffs Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in 2016, the Trial Lawyer of Year by the Maryland Association for Justice in 2015 and the Baltimore Lawyer of the Year. He was further presented with the 2015 Cornerstone Award from SmartCEO Magazine, the Outstanding Liberal Arts Alumni Award from the Pennsylvania State University and the Icon Award from The Daily Record. Notably, Mr. Schochor was also honored among the Influential Marylanders of 2015 by The Daily Record, the Top One Percent of the National Association of Distinguished Counsel in 2015, the Top 100 Litigation Lawyers in the State of Maryland by the American Society of Legal Advocates in 2013 and the Top 100 Lawyers by the American Trial Lawyers Association.
Greatly influenced by his father-in-law, an obstetrician and gynecologist who sparked his interest in medical negligence cases, Mr. Schochor is incredibly proud to have settled the Levy Class Action lawsuit against Johns Hopkins Hospital for $190 million, which is considered the largest single-perpetrator sexual abuse settlement in U.S. history. He is also grateful to have been contacted thousands of times to represent medical malpractice cases over the years, having gained enough business from class action lawsuits to increase their staff. Looking toward the future, Mr. Schochor hopes to foster his firm’s dynamic and successful nature by taking on meritorious cases, including those against powerful insurance companies and hospitals.
