Before joining his Dallas/Fort Worth-based law firm, Mr. Boston was a shareholder in the litigation section at Winstead PC, a business, transactions, and litigation practice firm, from 1997 to 2017. His earlier years included serving as a shareholder at Payne & Vending P.C. between 1981 and 1997 after initially garnering experience as an associate at Shank Irwin from 1978 to 1981.

Mr. Boston’s academic foundation was laid at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics, cum laude, in 1975. He continued his education at the same institution, obtaining a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1978. These academic achievements have been pivotal in shaping his successful legal career. Mr. Boston’s expertise is further underscored by his board certifications in civil appellate law and civil trial law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He has been admitted to practice by the Texas Bar Association, the United States District Court for the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Adding to his expertise, Mr. Boston’s professional affiliations include membership in the Dallas Historical Society, the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth, the State Bar of Texas and the Dallas Bar Association. He has also held leadership roles, such as past chair of the litigation section of the State Bar of Texas and the business litigation section of the Dallas Bar Association. Meanwhile, Mr. Boston’s dedication to his community is evident through his involvement with civic-minded organizations, like the Dallas Bar Foundation and the Texas Bar Foundation, where he serves on the board of trustees.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Boston is an accomplished author and historian. He has penned six books, including “Cross-Examining History: A Lawyer Gets Answers From the Experts About Our Presidents,” by Bright Sky Press in 2016, and “How the Best Did It: Leadership Lessons From Our Top President,” published by Post Hill Press in 2024. His works on baseball history, such as “1939: Baseball’s Tipping Point” in 2005 and “Baseball and the Baby Boomer: A History, Commentary, and Memoir” in 2009, reflect his deep love for the sport and its historical significance.

Mr. Boston’s contributions extend beyond writing. He has become a prolific public speaker who has been recognized for his engaging presentations on topics ranging from law to presidential history and baseball. He has spoken at prestigious venues, including six presidential libraries and the National Archives. Mr. Boston’s commentary has also been featured on C-SPAN, Rutgers Today and National Fox News.

In light of his remarkable success in law, Mr. Boston has been recognized as a Texas Super Lawyer every year since 2003 and with inclusion in Best Lawyers in America annually since 2013. Moreover, he received the Luke Soules Award from the State Bar of Texas litigation section in 2022 and the Dan Rugeley Price Memorial Award from the Texas Bar Foundation in 2022.

Looking ahead, Mr. Boston remains committed to practicing law with no plans for retirement. He values his role at Shackelford, McKinley & Norton LLP and takes pride in helping clients achieve their legal goals.
