Mr. Williamson is a seasoned attorney who launched Williamson Family Law PLLC in Chaska, Minnesota, in 2020 after two decades in the field. Passionate about providing high-quality, affordable representation, he specializes in all areas of family law, including divorce, alimony, child support, child custody and visitation, and adoption.
Beginning his legal career in 2003, Mr. Williamson was an assistant county attorney for the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office in Minnesota, working within the child support division. Subsequently, he joined M. Sue Wilson Law Offices PA as an attorney from 2004 to 2012, where he continued to excel in family law. He also worked for Hellmuth & Johnson PLLC between 2012 and 2014, representing clients in various family law matters ranging from complex business valuation, property division, and cash flow analysis relating to spousal maintenance and child support to parenting time and custody matters. In 2014, Mr. Williamson succeeded as a special counsel in Minneapolis.
Over the next few years, Mr. Williamson continued to improve upon his family law specialty as an associate attorney III at Cordell and Cordell PA in Edina, Minnesota, from 2014 to 2016 and at Haugen & Braaten PA in Excelsior, Minnesota, between 2016 and 2020.
Before passing the bar, Mr. Williamson was an information technology (IT) specialist at Cargill, a family-owned food and beverage manufacturing company based in Wayzata, Minnesota, from 1991 to 1997. His hard work and tenacity earned him the opportunity to also serve as a senior IT professional between 1992 and 1997. Most notably, Mr. Williamson honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1985 to 1989, becoming a sergeant of the 321st Strategic Missile Wing.
Mr. Williamson holds a Bachelor of Science in computer science from the University of North Dakota and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Mitchell Hamline School of Law. He has been admitted to practice by the Minnesota Bar Association.
In recognition of his success in law, Mr. Williamson has been highlighted as a Super Lawyer in Minnesota every year between 2020 and 2024. However, his proudest achievement has been his ability to positively affect the many parents, couples and children he has come in contact with over the years. Among many cases that stand out, Mr. Williamson recalls one where he and his client endured a five-day custody trial in 2023 that worked in his favor, securing him nearly 50-50 parenting time despite the need for improved parenting. Additionally, he is proud that most of his clients come by word of mouth, a testament to his reputation as an attorney who always puts the best interests of others before himself.
Reflecting on the past few decades, Mr. Williamson credits his accomplishments to having great mentors who are well-known in the industry for their integrity. He also notes his constant desire to continue growing and developing his expertise and not becoming complacent. As he prepares for the future of his career as a foremost private-practice attorney, Mr. Williamson’s future goals include continually representing his clients at the highest level to ensure the best possible outcomes for themselves and their families.
