Joshua R. Javitz, patent attorney at Riverside Law LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal services.
With nearly a decade and a half of experience, Mr. Javitz has built a successful career in legal services, specializing in preparing patent applications and working with startup companies. He currently serves as a patent attorney at Riverside Law LLP, a position he has held since 2023, and as an assistant wrestling coach at William Penn Charter School, a role he has held since 2021. His responsibilities include drafting and prosecuting patent applications, interfacing with clients, and training new team members within the firm. His previous experience includes serving as an attorney at Grant Attorneys at Law PLLC in 2023, Flaster/Greenberg from 2022 to 2023, Duane Morris LLP from 2019 to 2022, Fox Rothschild LLP from 2018 to 2019, and Sughrue Mion PLLC from 2016 to 2018. Earlier in his career, he gained experience as a patent engineering intern at IBM from 2014 to 2015 and as an engineering scientific and technical intern at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation from 2011 to 2013.
Laying a strong educational foundation, Mr. Javitz earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Scranton in 2013, followed by coursework at Michigan State University College of Law in 2014. He completed a juris doctor in intellectual property law at Villanova University School of Law in 2016, is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, holding registration number 77,04, and is a member of the Lackawanna Bar Association. In addition, he is involved with the American Intellectual Property Law Association, USA Wrestling, and serves on the advisory board for the University of Scranton. He also dedicates his time as a board member and legal advisor for a wrestling club, participates in food drives, and remains committed to fostering the growth of the next generation of athletes and legal professionals.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Javitz notes that coming from a family with a legal background, including a mother who is an attorney, he always aspired to pursue a legal career. Ultimately, he chose to attend the University of Scranton, a school with a strong family legacy, and majored in electrical engineering. During his undergraduate studies, a presentation on patent law introduced him to the field, inspiring him to connect the principles of law with the engineering concepts he was learning. He became further involved in patent law through the excellent exposure and training he received while working at IBM, a company renowned for its leadership in patent filings. He finds great satisfaction in solving problems and sees his work as a way to help clients grow their companies or bring their inventions to life. Additionally, he takes great pride in his role as a high school wrestling coach, where he has grown significantly over the past three years.
Mr. Javitz attributes his success to the support and values instilled by his family, particularly his parents, who taught him the importance of hard work, adaptability, and communication. Additionally, he credits his wrestling background for shaped his unique perspective on hard work, strong understanding of mechanical inventions, and ability to communicate with diverse individuals, including students, doctors, and PhDs. Looking to the future, he is focused on expanding Riverside Law LLP’s patent practice while continuing to value the firm’s collaboration with universities and companies in the medical device industry. He also plans to advance his coaching career by returning to his high school alma mater. In his personal life, he and his wife are excited to begin growing their family.
