Mr. Spanos is a seasoned attorney representing Taylor English Dum LLP, a full-service law firm headquartered in Atlanta. As a partner at the firm since 2020, he is an expert in labor law, including areas such as collective bargaining, union organizing, union elections, unfair labor practices, grievances and strikes. He also focuses his practice on employment law, including discrimination, wrongful termination, harassment, handbooks and other areas of this niche. Moreover, Mr. Spanos is proficient in the nonprofit sector, having represented organizations in various areas of the law, including general governance.
Before joining his firm, Mr. Spanos was a partner at several other Atlanta-based firms, including Akerman LLP from 2019 to 2020, Barnes & Thornburg LLP between 2013 and 2019, where he was also a member of the labor and employment law division, Burr & Forman LLP from 2003 to 2013 and Littler Mendelson between 1995 and 2003. He attributes over 40 years of proven success as an attorney to his legal career.
Mr. Spanos achieved remarkable success at various firms early in his career, where he was involved in labor and trust law. He also handled cases with the Trade Association and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Throughout his career, Mr. Spanos litigated before state and federal courts. He has also handled cases before the National Labor Relations Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and has been successful in arbitrations, mediations and appeals.
Mr. Spanos graduated from the prestigious Harvard University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy. Subsequently, he received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Michigan in 1976, where he served as the editor-in-chief of the University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform and notably received the Sarah Honigman Memorial Award. Mr. Spanos was admitted to practice by the D.C. and Georgia Bar Associations, the U.S. Claims Court and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Active in his professional community, Mr. Spanos is a member of the American Bar Association, where he previously served in the labor and employment law section, the antitrust section, and the forum committee on the construction industry. He is also a member of the Atlanta Bar Association and the Georgia Bar Association, where he served in various capacities.
Mr. Spanos has been civically involved with The Signet Society, the Phillips Brooks House Association and the Telluride Association. He has also served as an outside general counselor for a nonprofit trade association.
Mr. Spanos was recognized by Chambers USA for labor and employment law every year between 2009 and 2019, Best Lawyers of America every year between 2020 and 2023, and Georgia Trend’s Legal Elite for labor and employment law in 2022. Additionally, he has been Martindale-Hubbell AV Rated for over four decades.
