With nearly a decade and a half of experience, Mr. Nguyen has excelled in law and business management, specializing in family law, child welfare, child protection services, and defense litigation. He is currently the managing attorney and owner of The Law Office of Dan-Phi V. Nguyen PLLC, a role he has held since 2020. In this role, he drafts petitions for conservatorship, participates in contested child protection hearings, reviews and revises closing documents and final decrees, responds to discovery requests, conducts client consultations, and manages fee collection for the firm. He also served as an associate attorney at Proffitt & Associates in 2020. Prior to this, he worked as an associate attorney and assistant county attorney in the Child Protection Services Group at the Harris County Attorney’s Office, The Flowers Law Firm PC, from 2011 to 2019. Under the mentorship of Richard L. Flowers, he played a pivotal role in various legal proceedings, including contested breach of contract cases, child custody, and divorce issues.
Mr. Nguyen’s early legal career includes experience as a writing clerk at The Mostyn Law Firm in 2011 and positions at Iruke & Uyamadu Law Firm PLLC and the Child Protective Services Division of the Harris County Attorney’s Office from 2009 to 2010. In 2010, he interned at the Family Intervention Court, 247th Judicial District Court, and served as an assistant county attorney for the 246th Family District Court and the 314th Juvenile District Court at Harris County Attorney’s Office’s Child Protective Services Group. Additionally, he presented lectures on special immigration juvenile status and served on task forces for unaccompanied minors entering the United States.
Setting a solid foundation for his career, Mr. Nguyen earned a Bachelor of Arts in business administration, accounting, and finance from Houston Baptist University, now Houston Christian University, in 2004. He followed this with a Juris Doctor from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in 2010 and is licensed to practice law in Texas. He is an active member of various organizations, including the National Black Law Student Association, the State Bar of Texas Family and Child Welfare Sections, and the Texas Association of Family Defense Attorneys.
Throughout his career, Mr. Nguyen takes great pride in having won his first appeal on a complex child custody case, where he represented a mother whose grandmother had unlawfully taken custody of her child. Additionally, he successfully appealed a family law case before the Texas Court of Appeals, resulting in the reversal and remand of a trial court’s premature dismissal of a petition for a bill of review. Additionally, he secured favorable outcomes in numerous family law cases, including mediating settlements, expediting child custody proceedings and divorces, and successfully challenging CPS sexual abuse findings before the State Office of Administrative Hearings.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Nguyen was honored as one of the Nationally Ranked Top Ten Attorneys Under 40 by the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys in 2023. During his time at Thurgood Marshall School of Law, he made the Dean’s List in 2009 and 2010, was a two-time semi-finalist and Best Brief winner in the Henry Doyle Moot Court Competition, and participated in the Helen Dawn Williams Mock Trial Competition. He attributes his success to two core principles: providing for his family and securing favorable client outcomes. In the coming years, he says he will remain dedicated to judicial integrity and adherence to legal principles.
