Ronald David Aucutt, Lawyer at McGuireWoods LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law.
Growing up, Mr. Aucutt spent a lot of time talking with his uncle about law. He was very interested in the subject, and eventually decided to follow in his uncle’s footsteps and become a lawyer. Mr. Aucutt proceeded to earn a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota in 1967 and a JD from the University of Minnesota in 1975. Between 1970 and 1973, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. Then, to enhance his professional standing, he became admitted to practice before the states of Minnesota, Virginia, and Texas, the District of Columbia, the United States Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, the United States Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit, the United States Court of Claims, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Mr. Aucutt’s first job in the field was as an associate of Miller & Chevalier. After six years, he was promoted to partner of the firm, where he remained for more than another decade. He left in 1998 to become a partner of McGuireWoods LLP, and has been there ever since. His focus is on federal tax and trusts and estates.
Outside of the office, Mr. Aucutt is active as a member of the advisory committee of the Philip E. Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning at the University of Miami, the board of advisors of the Tax Management Estate, Gifts, and Trusts Journal, and academician of the International Academy of Estate and Trust Law. Previous positions include member of the advisory council of the IRS, adjunct professor in the School of Law at the University of Virginia, member of the board of regents of Trinity International University, vice chairman of Advocates International, member of the editorial board of Estate Planning, member of the board of advisors of the Journal Taxation Exempt Organizations, and president of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, among others. Notably, he was also the first chair of Aztecs Washington Affairs Committee.
When Mr. Aucutt isn’t working, he enjoys walking, reading, and participating in church activities. He spent many years as a member of the board of directors and as a moderator for the Evangelical Free Church of America.
