William A. Rosoff, Lawyer at Dechert LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the Tax Law.
Mr. Rosoff has served as counsel of Dechert LLP since 2011, and celebrates 50 years of expertise in legal practice. He has extensive experience representing a wide variety of clients in different industries in both commercial and tax areas. These include mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other complex corporate transactions. The representations involve both public and large privately held companies operating domestically and internationally, as well as estates, trusts, individual entrepreneurs, and investors. Examples of the industries include financial services, real estate, venture capital, manufacturing and beverage distribution.
Prior to joining Dechert, Mr. Rosoff was President and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Advanta Corp., a public company which most recently was one of the largest issuers of credit cards to small businesses in the United States. He was also a long time leader of Wolf, Block, Schorr and Solis-Cohen where he served, at different times, as Chairman of the Executive Committee and Chairman of the Tax Department.
Mr. Rosoff has been a frequent speaker on tax issues, having given presentations at the National Office of the Internal Revenue Service and Harvard Law School, among others. He also served as an advisor to the U.S. Treasury Department, and as a tax advisory board member for a number of institutions, including Commerce Clearing House and Tax Analysts. He also had a leading role in the American Law Institute’s Proposals on Partnership Taxation.
Born to Herbert Rosoff and Estelle Rosoff in Philadelphia, Mr. Rosoff attended Temple University to earn a BS with high honors in 1964, followed by an LLB, magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania in 1967 where he served as an editor of Law Review. He entered practice as a law clerk to the Honorable Abraham L. Freedman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He is a member of the Pennsylvania and New York bars.
Mr. Rosoff is a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel, and a member of the Order of the Coif, Beta Gamma Sigma and Beta Alpha Psi honor organizations. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Rothman Institute Orthopedic Foundation and on the Dean’s Counsel of the Fox School of Business at Temple University.
Mr. Rosoff and his wife Beverly are the parents of Catherine and Andrew Rosoff. Mr. And Mrs. Rosoff were the 2017 recipients of the Martin D. Ginsburg award presented by Cedille Chicago, a nonprofit organization giving world wide exposure to emerging classical recording artists.
Mr. Rosoff is a recipient of the Alfred Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and recognized as a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Expert, in addition to an oft-featured listee in Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
