With nearly a decade and a half of experience, Mr. Baxter has established a successful career in legal services, specializing in criminal defense, family law, and real estate law. He is the founding attorney of Baxter Law LLC, a role he has held since 2024. Prior to this, he was the founding partner at Baxter Harder LLC from 2016 to 2024, and the founding attorney at Baxter Law from 2015 to 2016. His earlier experience includes serving as a deputy district attorney at the District Attorney’s Office in Deschutes County from 2012 to 2015, and as a financial advisor at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, now Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, from 2011 to 2012. He also dedicated his time as a volunteer deputy district attorney in 2010 and held a summer internship at the same office in 2009. Additionally, he worked as an attorney employment intern at Vinson & Elkins LLP from 2005 to 2007 and served as a helicopter crew chief in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1997 to 2000. He is an active board member of Central Oregon Veterans Outreach, vice chair of the executive board for J Bar J Youth Services and has provided pro bono legal services to veterans organizations.
Laying a solid educational foundation, Mr. Baxter earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in business management from the University of Houston, graduating summa cum laude in 2007. He also holds a Juris Doctor from Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver, where he graduated in 2010. He was admitted to the Oregon State Bar in 2010. He is also member of the Oregon State Bar and the Deschutes County Bar Association. Reflecting on his path, he was inspired to pursue a career in law because of his passion for serving and connecting with people. During his tenure as a prosecutor, he handled cases ranging from minor offenses to murder, which gave him invaluable experience and a smooth transition into criminal defense.
