Building on 25 years of experience in the legal field, Ms. Watson has served as an attorney and partner at the JLW Immigration Law Group since 2023. Simultaneously with that, she helps educate the next generation of lawyers as an adjunct professor at the Austin Community College. Prior to this, Ms. Watson fulfilled the same roles for more than five years at Walker Gates Vela PLLC. She built her experience in the position of associate attorney with Hines & Leigh PC from 2004 to 2011. Ms. Watson contributed for two years as a staff attorney with the State Bar of Texas. Her career started in 1999 as an attorney for American Gateways.
Ms. Watson’s performance in the field was born of her academic journey. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from The University of Texas at El Paso in 1995. Subsequently, Ms. Watson earned a Juris Doctor from The University of Texas at Austin’s School of Law in 1999. She has further solidified her credentials through certification in immigration and nationality law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and bar admission in the Western District of Texas and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Ms. Watson’s achievements in the field were recognized when she was presented with the W. Page Keeton Award for Excellence in Continuing Legal Education in 2020. She credits her success to a strong network of supporters and dedication to representing families in immigration cases.
Beyond her career, Ms. Watson is a devoted mother to one child. Looking to the future, she plans to transition away from private practices. While Ms. Watson intends to continue practicing law, she wants to focus more on teaching in the future, including undergraduate and continuing education. She recognizes the value of her own academic career and hopes to support that journey for others.
