Following obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, Judge Haigler continued his education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University Law School in 1973. During his attendance at St. Mary’s University, he founded the Legal Research Board. From 1967 to 1971, Judge Haigler served his country as a captain in the United States Air Force.

After 20 years in which he excelled as mediator and arbitrator in addition to being a lawyer practicing in Abilene, Texas, Judge Haigler was appointed to the position of federal judge assigned to the Dallas region in 2006. On a typical week the majority of his responsibilities include assigning and reviewing cases and having an average of 25 hearings per week. As an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) for Social Security Disability Determination, Judge Haigler is one about 1,200 such judges throughout the country, who hear about 750,000 disability appeals every year.

Judge Haigler attributes his success to his diligence, hard work, persistence and never giving up. Though he has provided superior service as a federal judge for nearly two decades, he considers his career highlight defending parents who homeschooled their children against truancy charges. Now in his seventies, Judge Haigler does not plan on retirement anytime soon.
