Michael E. Stern, Esq., Partner at Rubin, Fiorella, Friedman & Mercante LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in litigation, mediation and arbitration.

With nearly 30 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Stern has excelled as a partner with Rubin, Fiorella, Friedman & Mercante LLP in New York, New York since 2004, a position in which he has been involved in admiralty and maritime litigation and arbitration throughout the United States and around the globe. Moreover, he served as an adjunct professor with the International Trade and Marketing department with the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City between 2003 and 2005. Prior to these positions, Mr. Stern refined his skills as a senior associate with Nourse & Bowles LLP in New York City from 1995 to 2002.

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Stern pursued an education at the University of Pennsylvania, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations in 1987. He continued his studies at the Duke University School of Law in 1991, graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence, cum laude. Mr. Stern has been admitted to practice before the Courts of New York State, New Jersey, the U.S. Court of International Trade, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second and Third Circuit, and numerous federal District Courts. He is a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States.

Outside of the practice of law, Mr. Stern has participated in numerous professional endeavors. He was a member of Vantage10 Panel of Mediators and Experts in London, England; a fellow of the Forum for International Conciliation and Arbitration also based in London; an editorial board member for the International Journal for the Rule of Law; and a member of the Historic Preservation Commission and Planning Board of Ridgewood, New Jersey. And, as the proud father of four talented children, he enjoys being involved in a 79-year-old tradition in Ridgewood known as “Dads Night.”

Mr. Stern attributes his success to a quick and effective grasp of the legal needs of his clients, and his ability to effectively communicate a position in clear and organized writings and verbal presentations so that clients, adversaries, and courts understand and appreciate the analyses presented. As the son of a physician, Michael initially harbored thoughts of following in his father’s footsteps but was inspired to pursue a legal career while studying medical legal ethics during his senior year at the University of Pennsylvania. Michael realized that the law was an instrument to effect positive changes in society, and he aspires to always use his position to attain the goals of justice. In the coming years, Mr. Stern hopes to continue and further develop his practice and to supplement his practice with serving as an arbitrator and mediator applying his 30 plus years of experience in admiralty and maritime litigation.
