Company: Feeney & Associates at Law
Location: Rockport, Massachusetts, United States
Thomas Feeney, Attorney at Law at Feeney & Associates at Law, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in contract and small business litigation.
For over two decades, Mr. Feeney has prospered as managing partner and attorney with Feeney & Associates at Law, a premier firm in Gloucester, Massachusetts specializing in corporate formation, contract, and litigation services for individuals and small businesses, concentrating in construction law, landlord/tenant law, consumer protection and employment law. Additionally, Feeney & Associates excels in civil rights litigation, mediation services for divorce, child custody and alimony disputes as well as mediation services for family-held and other small business disputes, including construction and landlord/tenant disputes.
After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in geography, geology, and cartography in 1981 from Rutgers University, Mr. Feeney later followed with a Master of Arts in political science and international conflict resolution in 1991 from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He furthered his education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Hawaii at Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law the same year.
From 1991 to 1995, Mr. Feeney served clerkships for Judge Thomas K. Kalaukukui of the Circuit Court of the First Circuit, State of Hawaii, from 1991 to 1992; Justice Robert G. Klein of the Hawaii Supreme Court from 1992 to 1993; Judge Helen Gillmor and Magistrate Judge Barry M. Kurren of the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii from 1993 to 1995; and Chief Magistrate Judge Robert B. Collings of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts in 2000.
Mr. Feeney became involved in his profession when he realized being a lawyer was what he wanted to do in his life. After graduating college, he worked in the corporate world for a market research company, but realized it was not his calling. He went to Europe for a year to visit his family there and reflect upon the path he would want to take professionally. When he came back to the United States, he stayed in Hawaii, where his sister married the executive director of the Neighborhood Justice Center, a mediation program where Mr. Feeney volunteered. Having enjoyed the work, he decided to take a master’s degree in political science and international conflict resolution and a Juris Doctor in Hawaii that he both completed in 1991.
Throughout the course of his career, what Mr. Feeney feels that his most notable achievement was the appreciation and gratefulness he received from his clients and their families, after helping them through a challenging moment of their lives. As a lawyer, he truly loves his job that even small cases, like helping a family in a construction dispute and receiving a simple “thank you” from them, have been very rewarding. In the coming years, Mr. Feeney plans to return to teaching while continuing to do litigation work.
