Brooke N. Ennis, Esq., Owner and Attorney at Upstate Law, has been recognized by Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Criminal Defense, Family Law and Trial Litigation.

Ms. Ennis’s career is distinguished by her unwavering commitment to client advocacy and her exceptional record in the courtroom. Since 2025, she has led Upstate Law in South Carolina as the firm’s owner and attorney, where she has quickly established a reputation for formidable trial skills and compassionate representation. Ms. Ennis’s practice is marked by an outstanding trial record with only one loss to date, a testament to her expertise and determination. Clients routinely seek her counsel when they require an attorney willing to fight vigorously on their behalf, and she takes pride in securing positive outcomes that allow individuals to return home to their families and rebuild their lives.

In addition to managing her private practice, Ms. Ennis serves as a city attorney for the Town of Central, South Carolina. She also collaborates on a contract basis with the Oconee County Public Defender’s Office, emphasizing the importance of accessible legal representation for all individuals regardless of financial means.

Before founding Upstate Law, Ms. Ennis was an assistant solicitor for Oconee County from 2021 to 2023. In this prosecutorial role, she gained valuable experience handling a wide range of criminal cases and further refined her litigation skills. Earlier, she completed an immigration internship with Gulfcoast Legal Services Inc. in 2021, where she provided legal aid and immigration services to underserved communities. In 2020, Ms. Ennis served as a certified legal intern at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida in Tampa, gaining exposure to federal prosecution practices. Her legal journey began as a judicial intern with the 10th Judicial Circuit of Florida in 2019.

Ms. Ennis’s expertise in criminal defense, family law and trial litigation is underpinned by robust academic preparation and specialized training in advocacy. She first received a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in Wilmington, North Carolina, in 2016.

Ms. Ennis then earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Stetson University in Gulfport, Florida, in 2021, where she completed an advocacy concentration that set the foundation for her litigation career. During law school, she competed nationally on the trial team and internationally on the dispute resolution team, experiences that honed her courtroom acumen and prepared her for high-stakes legal work from the outset of her practice.

In addition to her formal education, Ms. Ennis received several professional credentials that have contributed to her professional growth. She earned certification in comparative trial advocacy from the University of Oxford in 2019 after studying trial advocacy abroad, a unique experience that broadened her perspective on international dispute resolution and further distinguished her among peers. Additionally, Ms. Ennis received certification in theatre and women’s leadership from Brevard College, which was awarded earlier in 2013.

Throughout her professional trajectory, Ms. Ennis has demonstrated a deep commitment to advancing the legal profession and supporting her peers. She is an active member of the Oconee County Bar Association, the Pickens County Bar Association and the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association. Ms. Ennis’s involvement with these organizations reflects her dedication to fostering community among legal professionals and advocating for greater inclusivity within the field. Ms. Ennis’s advocacy extends to supporting the Public Defenders Association and volunteering pro bono to ensure that economic barriers do not limit justice. Furthermore, she maintains active civic engagement through volunteer roles with Upstate Running Club and Girls on the Run International, organizations dedicated to promoting health, wellness and empowerment among youth participants.

Ms. Ennis has received accolades recognizing both professional excellence and service contributions, including recognition among the Top 40 Under 40 in Criminal Defense and a William Blue Service Award for Volunteer and Public Service from Stetson University. Her leadership abilities were evident early on through participation in student government during middle school and continued development through programs such as Women in Leadership during high school and college. While at Stetson University, Ms. Ennis earned a leadership certificate and served on the leadership board.

A driving force behind Ms. Ennis’s success is her passion for advocacy rooted in empathy for those navigating difficult circumstances. She approaches each case by seeking to understand not only the facts but also the underlying factors, such as addiction or lack of resources, that may have contributed to a client’s situation. By connecting clients with rehabilitation programs or employment resources when appropriate, Ms. Ennis strives to support long-term stability rather than short-term solutions.

Looking ahead, Ms. Ennis plans to expand Upstate Law by hiring additional attorneys so more individuals can benefit from quality representation regardless of circumstance or background. She also remains committed to strengthening partnerships with women’s legal organizations while continuing efforts aimed at removing systemic barriers within South Carolina courthouses. Through steadfast dedication across every facet of practice, Ms. Ennis exemplifies excellence within modern American jurisprudence while inspiring colleagues throughout South Carolina’s legal community and beyond.
