Jennifer L. Muse, Partner at Honigman LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Employment Law.

Drawing on over a decade of experience in the legal services industry, Ms. Muse has established herself as an expert in employment law. Her commitment to the field is evident through her current role as a labor and employment attorney and partner at Honigman LLP in Detroit, Michigan, a position she has held since 2021. In this capacity, Ms. Muse addresses complex employee situations with human resources representatives, drafts standard employment agreements, works on restrictive covenants and related matters, reviews company policies, and serves as an employment law specialist during mergers and acquisitions. Furthermore, she assists corporate teams in completing deals. Notably, her clients span the entire U.S. and represent a diverse range of industries, reflecting her belief that every business is fundamentally about building relationships.

Before becoming a partner, Ms. Muse served as a labor and employment associate at her firm from 2016 to 2021. Since joining Honigman LLP, she demonstrated a strong focus on standardizing processes within her department and practice group. Most notably, Ms. Muse played a key role in developing procedures and forms that have positively impacted colleagues and facilitated the onboarding of new associates, an accomplishment she considers among her proudest professional achievements.

Ms. Muse’s legal career at Honigman LLP (formerly Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP) began while she was still in law school as an intern during the summer of 2015. Earlier roles included working as a rights and reproductions intern at the Indianapolis Museum of Art (now Newfields) from 2014 to 2015 and as a judicial extern at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in Lansing, Michigan, in 2014.

Before entering the legal profession, Ms. Muse gained valuable experience in the insurance sector with State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company in the Lincoln, Nebraska, Metropolitan Area. From 2012 to 2013, she worked as a fire personal lines underwriter after serving for 18 months as an underwriting service assistant beginning in 2011 and as an intern for the law team division between 2006 and 2009.

Ms. Muse’s educational background has been instrumental to her success. She earned a Bachelor of Music in music performance from Baldwin Wallace University in 2009, followed by a Master of Music in flute performance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2011 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the college of law at Michigan State University in East Lansing in 2016. The discipline honed during her musical training and analytical rigor developed through her legal studies have supported Ms. Muse’s ability to approach complex legal matters with both creativity and precision.

Throughout her academic journey, Ms. Muse held several leadership positions. She contributed as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Nebraska System between 2009 and 2011. She also served as a teaching assistant at the college of law at Michigan State University from 2014 to 2016 and was the editor-in-chief of the Michigan State Law Review between 2015 and 2016.

Ms.  Muse’s professional affiliations reflect her commitment to excellence within her field. She is a member of the Michigan Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Additionally, she is involved with the Detroit Economic Club. These associations have provided platforms for ongoing learning and networking within the broader business community.

Beyond her work at Honigman LLP, Ms. Muse is deeply engaged in civic activities and community organizations. Since 2022, she has served as a trustee for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and, that same year, joined the board of directors for Girls Group in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Previously, Ms. Muse chaired the NextGen committee for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra from 2020 to 2022 following three years as a committee member beginning in 2017. She also performs with both the Ferndale Community Concert Band and the Southeastern Michigan Wind Ensemble and sings in her church choir. Ms.  Muse’s volunteer efforts extend to the First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak, where she is an active member and supporter of the Pyoca Camp, Conference and Retreat Center in Brownstown, Indiana.

Ms. Muse’s thought leadership has been evident through several publications addressing contemporary issues within employment law such as ‘Ask the Experts: Workplace Culture in the Wake of #MeToo’ published by Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association, co-authorship of ‘Waiting for the Pendulum to Swing: Predicting Changes Under the Trump NLRB’ for the Lawnotes Labor and Employment section of the State Bar of Michigan, and ‘Monkeys and Elephants And Koalas Oh My! Is Originality Still the Touchstone of Authorship in United States Copyright Law?’ published by Journal of the Patent & Trademark Office Society.

Ms. Muse’s inspiration to pursue law began during junior high school when she observed her mother attend law school while raising their family. This formative experience sparked an interest that was further reinforced by her enjoyment of reviewing insurance contracts during her tenure at State Farm Insurance Company. These influences guided Ms. Muse’s decision to attend law school, a choice that proved pivotal for her career trajectory.

Recognized through numerous awards, Ms. Muse received an Honorable Mention Award at the 44th Annual Rossman Award presented by the Patent & Trademark Office Society in 2017. She was also named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers every year from 2019 to 2025, was honored with Mentor of the Year honors at Honigman LLP for 2022 and 2023, and was recognized among the Ones to Watch by Best Lawyers every year between 2023 and 2026.

Throughout her career, Ms. Muse has learned that success is rooted in cultivating meaningful relationships with clients and colleagues alike. She credits much of her advancement to invaluable mentors who helped her discover her strengths and passions early on, a foundation that continues to inform her approach today. Looking ahead, Ms. Muse aims to continue making an impact on the clients and communities she serves, especially within Detroit’s vibrant legal landscape, while remaining dedicated to welcoming new clients into her practice at Honigman LLP.
