Mark James Guerry, JD, Retired Litigation Attorney at Mark J. Guerry, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements and leadership in General Practice Law, Law Enforcement and Entrepreneurial Ventures.
Mr. Guerry is lauded for his diverse, rewarding career, which began in the early 1990s in law. Before retiring from his tenure as an attorney, he founded Mark J. Guerry Enterprises, a spinoff of Guerry, Inc., in 2007. As principal, he manages various business interests that include ranching operations and entrepreneurial projects. Additionally, Mr. Guerry began leading Mark J. Guerry Consulting in 2021, providing general consulting services and handling private litigation matters with a reputation for aggressive and results-oriented advocacy.
In addition to these roles, Mr. Guerry is a rancher and Airbnb owner at Little House Creek Ranch on his Rogerson, Idaho, ranch, maintaining a family legacy that spans three generations. The property was originally acquired by his paternal grandfather in the 1920s after immigrating from the Basque Country in Spain. Following the division of the ranch in 2005 and his father’s passing, a portion of the land was transferred to Mr. Guerry’s ownership through a deed from Guerry, Inc., enabling him to continue the tradition of stewardship and innovation on the ranch.
In recent years, Mr. Guerry has expanded his business activities to include skip tracing, which involves locating individuals who have disappeared while on bond. He is also involved in livestock hauling and private driver services, providing transportation solutions for livestock as well as secure driving services for private clients. Drawing upon his background in law enforcement and martial arts, Mr. Guerry further offers personal security services and remains available for bodyguard assignments when needed.
Before these entrepreneurial pursuits, Mr. Guerry served as a special deputy sheriff for Owyhee County from 2021 to 2023 after retiring from legal practice. In this capacity, he apprehended felons and contributed to community safety while carrying out duties that required significant personal commitment and risk. Mr. Guerry’s law enforcement experience was also distinguished by nearly a decade of service as a prosecutor across four jurisdictions, including an appointment as special deputy attorney general by the Idaho Legislature, and over two years as a sworn deputy sheriff.
Mr. Guerry’s expertise in firearms safety allowed him to provide instruction on the legal aspects of the enhanced concealed weapons carry permit program in Twin County and Jerome County. He taught the four-hour classroom component on deadly force and assisted with range training to ensure participants demonstrated proficiency with firearms.
Perhaps most notably, Mr. Guerry spent three decades as a litigation attorney specializing in civil and criminal matters, as the owner of his general practice law firm in Twin Falls, Idaho, from 1991 to 2021. His practice included roles as both a conflict public defender and a prosecutor, managing hundreds of child protection cases involving children at risk of neglect or abuse. Mr. Guerry also gained recognition for handling high-profile cases that were frequently covered by local newspapers, television outlets and statewide media.
Mr. Guerry’s academic achievements include completing a bachelor’s degree in Spanish with an emphasis on criminal justice at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the college of law at the University of Idaho in Moscow. He is proficient in both English and the Basque language, which earned him recognition within the Boise State group for exceptional achievement. Moreover, Mr. Guerry completed eight weeks at the police academy in 2023 at age 63.
Throughout his career, Mr. Guerry has held leadership positions within industry organizations, including the Fifth District Bar Association as a past president, former vice president and former secretary. Active in his community, his civic contributions have included pro bono legal services statewide and disaster relief volunteering with Team Rubicon, as well as with the Knights of Columbus, where he is recognized as a fourth-degree knight, former grand knight and former interpreter. Mr. Guerry has also provided support for local food banks through donations, as well as for Salt and Light Radio and Catholic charitable drives. He remains physically active, having been involved in USA Boxing masters’ division competitions and through his ongoing training in Tang Soo Do martial arts.
Mr. Guerry’s commitment to excellence has been recognized with honors such as the Sheriff’s Award from Twin Falls County in 1991. Crediting his upbringing for his success, the influence of his Basque heritage, rooted in his grandparents’ immigration story, and Celtic ancestry from his mother’s side instilled values of perseverance, faith and dedication to family and community. Meanwhile, Mr. Guerry’s father’s veteran status during the Korean War era and leadership roles in local organizations provided further inspiration.
Looking ahead, Mr. Guerry aims to expand into new business ventures, such as applying for a federal firearms license with plans to become a Colt firearms dealer specializing in American-made antiques. He also intends to further serve others through continued involvement with Catholic organizations and charitable giving. Mr. Guerry’s journey exemplifies expertise, adaptability, resilience and lifelong pursuit of service rooted in faith and family tradition.
