Mr. Johns is a seasoned legal professional whose remarkable career has culminated in his role as an attorney, mediator and arbitrator at Christopher Johns, Esq., Mediation and Arbitration Services, in Boise, Idaho, in 2024. Leveraging over 40 years of expertise in mediation and litigation, he is sought after for his expertise in helping clients resolve disputes. As such, Mr. Johns facilitates constructive dialogue between both parties to help them find a resolution. He also frequently collaborates with the other attorneys during mediation or arbitration sessions.
Having spent 45 years as a lawyer, Mr. Johns spent over four decades managing his own practice, Johns and Allyn APC, in San Rafael, California, as a founding partner between 1983 and 2024 before retiring the practice and relocating to Boise. During this substantial tenure, he served as the chief trial lawyer, where he resolved over 200 cases through trial, summary judgment, and/or mediation. Among a range of legal matters, Mr. Johns was involved in professional and product liability, personal injury, insurance coverage/bad faith, real estate and environmental litigation matters.
Earlier in his legal career, Mr. Johns garnered success as an attorney at Bronson, Bronson & McKinnon from 1980 to 1983. He was also a law clerk for Judge Procter Hug Jr., a circuit judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 1979 to 1980, and an extern law clerk for Judge Alfred T. Goodwin, a circuit judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in 1979. Before passing the bar, Mr. Johns had the opportunity to serve as a managing editor for the Hastings International and Comparative Law Review in 1978 and 1979.
In preparation for his career in the legal field, Mr. Johns received a Bachelor of Arts in rhetoric (with “Great Distinction” and membership in Phi Beta Kappa) from the University of California Berkeley in 1975 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings) in 1979. He has been admitted to practice by the State Bar of California, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States. Additionally, Mr. Johns received credentials as a specialist in appellate law from the California Board of Legal Specialization, State Bar of California, in 2017 before being re-certified in 2022.
Before attending college, Mr. Johns served in the military, enlisting in the U.S. Marines in 1968 and serving to the rank of E-5 sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1971. Active in his professional community, he is a member of the American Bar Association, the California Bar Association, the Richard Sangster Inns of Court in Marin, Napa and Sonoma Counties, and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Panel for the Northern District Court of California.
Civically invested, Mr. Johns is affiliated with the Vietnam Veterans of America. He also generously supports several United Service organizations and his daughter’s school through various initiatives.
Mr. Johns received an AV-Preeminent Rating from Martindale-Hubbell every year between 1998 and 2024. In honor of his military service, he was awarded a Meritorious Mast. In the coming years, Mr. Johns anticipates future success as a mediator and arbitrator, serving clients in and around the Boise area as a dedicated member of the community.
