Ms. Conwell, an established attorney for over 40 years, has been the principal of her firm, Tracey Conwell, Attorney at Law, in Houston, Texas, since 1982. Working remotely, she engages in pro bono work and is now developing a podcast that focuses on various legal issues and notable cases. Throughout her career, Ms. Conwell has become a seasoned professional whose expertise spans trial law, litigation, and trafficking-related cases with the County and District Attorneys’ offices. Additionally, she has gained extensive knowledge in real estate law, contracts, and construction management.

Beginning her career in 1981, Ms. Conwell clerked for Vinson & Elkins LLP and Baker Botts LLP. She then became an associate attorney at Schlanger, Cook, Cohn, Mills & Grossberg from 1982 to 1984 and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP between 1984 and 1986. Ms. Conwell spent over a decade as a partner at Caddell & Conwell until 1998 before joining The O’Quinn Law Firm as an attorney and O’Quinn Laminack & Pirtle as a senior attorney from 2002 to 2007. Besides her primary career goals, she has been very active civically, serving as a founding member of the Personal Injury Lady Lawyers in Houston, as a donor for the local public library and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and through her extensive pro bono work, including recidivism projects and the implementation of the Star Program to combat trafficking.

In preparation for her legal career, Ms. Conwell received a Bachelor of Art in philosophy from Rice University in 1978 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence, summa cum laude, from the University of Houston in 1982. She was subsequently admitted to practice by the Texas Bar Association. Ms. Conwell is active in the Houston Trial Lawyers Association and the Texas Bar Association, which allow her to remain at the forefront of her industry. Interested in working with the Texas government on legal reform, she is also considering obtaining a license to practice law in New Mexico to pursue civil rights litigation pro bono. Moreover, she aspires to author her first book. Crediting her accomplishments thus far to her curiosity and determination, Ms. Conwell reflects on her career with admiration and gratitude.
