Ali Athar, senior counsel at Saudi Arabian Oil Co., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal services.
With over a decade and a half of experience, Mr. Athar has established a successful career in legal services, specializing in aerospace, defense, and government contracting. Since 2024, he has served as senior director, special general counsel for broadband managed services, and chief attorney at L3Harris Technology Inc. His prior experience includes senior counsel roles at Saudi Arabian Oil Co. in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, from 2022 to 2024, and at Baker Hughes Company in Houston, Texas, from 2014 to 2022. He also worked as an attorney at Boeing from 2007 to 2014 and in private legal practice from 2006 to 2007. Additionally, he has contributed as a legal advisor to the American Pakistan Foundation.
Laying a solid educational foundation, Mr. Athar earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and government from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2006, and a Juris Doctor in law from Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University in 2006. His academic achievements include authoring a master’s thesis on U.S. energy policy, tracing its development from the Nixon administration. He also dedicates his time as a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, and the District of Columbia Bar.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Athar knew from high school that he wanted to practice law, drawing inspiration from his great-grandfather’s legacy as a judge in colonial India and Yemen. A standout moment in his career was his integral role in General Electric’s acquisition of Baker Hughes, a major industry transaction. In light of his impressive undertakings, he earned recognition as one of the Top 50 Attorneys of Houston by Attorney Intel in 2023. He attributes his success to his ability to think outside the box, differentiate himself, and empathize with clients and stakeholders. He also notes his flexibility, openness to change, and commitment to the fast pace of business. Looking to the future, he envisions helping an organization grow while further honing his skills and taking the next step in leadership.
