Mr. Goldberg is a prominent attorney and shareholder at Greenberg Traurig LLP. Based in New York City, his multinational law and lobbying firm serves clients in 48 cities and parts of Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia. Since 2024, Mr. Goldberg has been working out of the firm’s Washington, D.C., office, focusing primarily on the chemicals sector by providing his expertise on chemicals regulation, environment, life science and administrative law.
A practicing attorney for over 45 years, Mr. Goldberg began his influential career in 1978 as an associate attorney at Steptoe & Johnson (now Steptoe LLP). Based in Washington, D.C., the law firm has been in business for over a century. In 1986, Mr. Goldberg became a partner at the firm, specializing in chemical regulatory, environmental and life sciences matters, where he remained until 2024. During that time, he successfully led a team of experts involved in regulatory programs for chemicals, biocides, pesticides, food-contact materials, medical devices and environmental scoping requirements. Mr. Goldberg then briefly served as senior counsel on chemical regulatory, environmental, life sciences, and administrative law before being acquired by Greenberg Traurig LLP.
Besides his primary career endeavors, Mr. Goldberg has been active in various industry-related endeavors. In December 2024, he is scheduled to speak at Biocides Europe 2024, an event in Vienna, Austria, organized by Chemical Watch.
In preparation for his legal career, Mr. Goldberg studied at Binghampton University, State University of New York, in Binghampton, where he acquired a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1975. Subsequently, he garnered a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Stanford University in Stanford, California, in 1978. Mr. Goldberg was admitted to practice by the Washington, D.C., and California Bar Associations.
Mr. Goldberg has been active in his professional community as a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the State Bar of California, which helps him remain at the forefront of his field. Civically, he enjoys serving as a trustee and secretary for the American Inns of Court Foundation since 2006 and 2008, respectively. Moreover, Mr. Goldberg is affiliated with his alma mater, Stanford University, as a member of the Stanford Law Review board of editors.
Mr. Goldberg’s extensive background in his niche area of law has been inspired by his passion for the field. His specific interest, which includes agency operational mechanisms, was also influential in his decision to focus on administration, ultimately defining his professional trajectory in law. Throughout his career, Mr. Goldberg has been recognized for numerous accomplishments, including his litigation work and efforts to resolve a pro bono employment discrimination class action.
In recognition of his decades of professional success, Martindale-Hubbell rated Mr. Goldberg as an AV Preeminent Attorney. He was also featured in The Legal 500 in 2018 and 2019 for his expertise in environmental law and litigation and Best Lawyers for 2024-2025 for his contributions to environmental law.
