Elliott Scheinberg

Title: Lawyer
Location: New York, New York, United States

Elliott Scheinberg, lawyer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal services.

With over four decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Scheinberg has established a successful career in legal services, specializing in matrimonial law and appellate procedure. He currently excels as a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), where he has served since 1990. The AAML is a professional organization of highly skilled attorneys who specialize in family law, including divorce, custody, property division, and related legal issues. In this capacity, he manages multiple projects simultaneously, including various legal cases, articles, and updates to his books. He consistently reviews decisions from New York State’s Appellate Division, which are released on different days of the week for various departments.

Mr. Scheinberg’s articles typically align with the subjects covered in his books, often focusing on appellate procedure or matrimonial law. He has authored two significant treatises published by the New York State Bar Association. He has contributed as a board editor for “Case Highlights and Litigation Tips” and authored the fifth edition of “Contract Doctrine and Marital Agreements in New York,” published in 2023, a comprehensive two-volume work exploring contract law’s application to prenups and postnups. He is also the author of “The New York Civil Appellate Citator,” currently in its third edition, a detailed three-volume treatise on appellate procedure at the Appellate Division level in New York. His works reflect his extensive research, including the analysis of over 10,000 cases.

Mr. Scheinberg’s experience also includes roles as appellate counsel specializing in matrimonial law, an expert in the enforcement and vacatur of prenuptial and postnuptial agreements at Elliott Scheinberg, Esq., New York, and a fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers, a global association of lawyers who specialize in family law. He has served as a teaching fellow at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and in the French department and romance linguistics program at Brooklyn College. He also dedicates his time to professional organizations as a member of the Committee on Courts of Appellate Jurisdiction for the New York State Bar Association and counsel for the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He has held leadership roles as co-chair of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in New York since 2010, previously served as chair in 2009 and co-chair in 2005, and has worked with the Judicial Institute in White Plains, New York.

Laying a solid educational foundation, Mr. Scheinberg earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and French language from Brooklyn College, a Juris Doctor from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, and a PhD candidate in romance philology at the University of Chicago. Reflecting on his academic path, he had a pivotal conversation in 1977 with the chair of his department, who, along with other mentors, advised him of the declining prospects in philology, prompting him to pursue law for a more stable career. In the coming years, he plans to continue focusing on his current work, including his legal cases, writing, and updating his publications. Though he prefers to focus on these projects for now, he remains open to future opportunities to engage with audiences as his interests and circumstances evolve.
