Thomas J.R. Stadnik, Associate Counsel for Global Surety at AIG, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal representation.

With more than 35 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Stadnik has excelled as associate counsel for global surety with AIG since 2013. Prior to this position, he was active as principal jurisconsult in the Law Office of Thomas J.R. Stadnik from 2002 to 2013. During this time, he additionally served as an attorney jurisconsult with AIG Property Casualty from 2010 to 2013 and a legal editor for LexisNexis Matthew Bender from 2008 to 2014. Mr. Stadnik began his career as associate international counsel with AIG from 1986 to 1992 before working as a senior western associate for Weil Gotshal & Manges in Warsaw, Poland between 1993 and 1997.

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Stadnik pursued an education at the University of Pennsylvania, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in international relations, classical civilization and history in 1974. He continued his academic efforts with a Master of Arts in Jurisprudence from the University of Oxford in 1976, a certificate in Civil Law and European Community Law from Université Libre de Bruxelles in 1976 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 1979. He concluded his formal studies at Tulane University Law School in 1981, graduating with a Master of Civil Law degree. Later, Mr. Stadnik also completed the Diaconate Formation program at St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Seminary in 2002.

Beyond his primary responsibilities within the field, Mr. Stadnik has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his immediate circles. At AIG, he has trained surety underwriters and junior underwriters and participated in the Company’s  Pro Bono Program. He has also found success through lawyer training presentations in Bulgaria and Poland as well as speaking engagements, including presentations on international Fidelity and Surety at the 2017 ABA-TIPS Conference in New Orleans. Moreover, Mr. Stadnik was ordained and has served as a deacon in the Ukrainian Catholic Church.

In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Stadnik has accrued several accolades throughout his career, including the AmJur Award in Admiralty and the Weiner-Anspach Scholarship. He has attributed his success to his strong work ethic, his esteemed reputation as a skilled lawyer, and the steadfast support of a boss who recognized his abilities and afforded him a degree of autonomy in his work. Heralded as a bilingual legal professional proficient in common law and Civil Law, Mr. Stadnik proudly recalls negotiating a joint venture with a top Polish bank  and successfully obtaining the first license for a foreign insurer to conduct insurance operations in the country and drafting documentation for negotiations that accommodated both current and future needs. He has brought all of these skills and attributes to bear in counselling AIG  as it formulates its future role in the Surety market.
