After initially obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in theology in 1992 from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, Ms. Hartley later continued her education with a Doctor of Jurisprudence with high honors from the Santa Barbara and Ventura Colleges of Law in 2006. A former United States Marine, where she served a signals intelligence analyst, Ms. Hartley served as a receptionist, file clerk, law clerk research attorney and finally as a litigation attorney with a local family law firm before opening her own practice, the Law Offices of Carla L. Hartley, in 2009.

Since 2014, Ms. Hartley has provided superior service as a managing partner and attorney with Hartley Lamas Et Al., which specializes in traditional family law issues such as divorce, child custody and adoption, as well as military divorce, grandparents’ visitation rights and child abduction cases. In addition, she has imparted her knowledge as an adjunct professor of law from 2014 to 2019 with Santa Barbara and Ventura Colleges of Law.

Ms. Hartley attributes her success to work ethic and the values that she received from her father and from the Marine Corps, as well as to her deep faith, which continues to guide her actions. She became involved in her profession because she was passionate about helping others, as well as her belief that everything she learned in signals intelligence and in the Marine Corps applies in the practice of law. As a career highlight, she cites co-founding the Pray for the Courts organization, which is very near and dear to her heart. Ms. Hartley is most proud of the difference that they have made in their clients’ lives. Additionally, Patricia Lamas, her former attorney and now her partner at Hartley Lamas Et Al. was instrumental in her pursuit of her law degree.

Ms. Hartley is a founding board member of Pray for the Courts, a non-profit organization that has been actively prayer-walking the local court since 2011. Her firm has been the primary financial support for full-time and part time individuals to minister to court staff, Pray for the Courts.
