Allison B Nolan, Founder at Athena International Management, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law.
Ms. Nolan was initially interested in studying law because it was a natural progression for her. She felt it was wonderful being a lawyer, but the main thing that she wanted to do was to add value in a different way and to be commercial because it is about the relationships you form. Being a director and sitting on the board of hedge funds is more of a personable role, where you are able to sit and form relationships with the client managers, and getting to understand their respective businesses. To her, it is a great balance of all of the things she enjoys to do, from communication-relationship building to problem-solving complex issues, with outside of the box ideas. She began her career as a solicitor at Taylor Wessing in the United Kingdom in 1988, remaining until 1993. She moved on to become head of legal at Mitsubishi Corporation Finance PLC in London in 1995 until 1998. Ms. Nolan then moved to the Cayman Islands, becoming a partner of Appleby in 1998, staying with the firm until 2005. In 2005, she founded Athena International Management Limited and took on the role of managing director, a position she holds to this day.
Prior to her career, Ms. Nolan earned a Bachelor of Laws in Law from Aberystwyth in 1987. She has also devoted time to her community, serving as a chair of the Education and Research Committee of Cayman, The Alternative Investment Management Association since 2010, and as a global angel and member of the Philanthropy Committee of 100 Women in Finance since 2007. She is also a member of the International Bar Association, 100 Women in Finance, Cayman Islands Directors Association, and The Alternative Investment Management Association. In her spare time, she is a meditation teacher, a scuba diver master, and enjoys yoga.
