Henry Holmes, Attorney at Holmes Weinberg, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in sports and entertainment law.

It’s been a few decades since Mr. Holmes has pushed carts at a supermarket, but throughout his career he hasn’t forgotten what set him on his path to represent and aid clients in need. While working in this position, he encountered the store owner, who was a lawyer, and inspired him to go into the field as well. Early on, Mr. Holmes centered his practice among his support of the civil rights movement and in representing farm workers. This work helped inform and establish the ethics and trust he would have in building relationships with clients in the sports and entertainment industries. Many of the clients he has worked with in those areas are well-known around the world.

After being inspired by his former employer, Mr. Holmes earned a Bachelor of Arts at San Diego State University in 1966 and continued at the institution to receive a JD in 1969. In 1970, he was admitted to the State Bar of California, the US District Court, Central District in California and the Ninth Circuit, US Court of Appeals. He began practicing at Pacht, Ross, Warne, Bernhard and Sears and in 1979, made partner at Butler, Davidson & Holmes. From 1984 to 1994, Mr. Holmes served as counsel of Cooper, Epstein & Hurewitz. He left this firm to become a sports and entertainment lawyer at Weissman, Wolff, Bergman, Coleman, Silverman & Holmes. He provided quality legal services in this venture until joining Greenberg Traurig LLC in 2002, where he remained until retiring in 2008. In addition to these positions, Mr. Holmes has served as a fellow of the Ford Foundation in India, as a speaker in the field and as an adjunct professor at the University of California, Los Angeles and Pepperdine University.

Mr. Holmes is proud of many moments in his career. A few include receiving a glove from heavyweight champion, George Foreman, after defeating Michael Maurer, the release and success of the film “Gravity,” his encounter with the California Supreme Court a year into practicing law, and being co-counsel in Billie Jean King’s palimony suit. In his career, Mr. Holmes has been recognized among the Southern California Super Lawyers. He was selected as one of the Top 20 Sports Lawyers by the Daily Journal in 1993 and is a Martindale-Hubble Preeminent lawyer with A/V rating. Furthermore, he has received accolades from the American Registry Professional and with International Advisory Expert. Furthermore, Mr. Holmes has been featured in several editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the West and Who’s Who in the World.
