Richard P. Theokas, president of Theokas Law Firm PC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal services.
With decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Theokas has established a successful career in legal services, specializing in civil practice. He currently excels as president and attorney at Theokas Law Firm PC, which he founded in 2010. His experience also includes serving as chairman of the flight training department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University from 1999 to 2006. Prior to this, he spent nearly three decades in the United States Air Force, holding various roles, including pilot, instructor pilot, evaluator pilot, chief pilot, operations officer, unit commander, staff officer, group commander, and director of operations training from 1968 to 1995. During his tenure with the Air Force, he earned the Legion of Merit for his distinguished service. In addition, he dedicates his time to the Air & Space Forces Association, serves as an assistant district governor for the Rotary Club, and is an active singer with a barbershop chorus. He is also a member of the Order of Daedalians, a prestigious organization for military aviators.
Laying a solid educational foundation, Mr. Theokas earned a Bachelor of Arts in Germanic languages, literatures, and linguistics from Union College in 1968. He went on to obtain a Master of Public Administration from Webster University in 1978, completed doctoral-level curriculum with an emphasis on strategic issues at the Air War College from 1988 to 1989, and earned his juris doctor from Mercer University School of Law in 1998. Additionally, he completed specialized coursework in squadron operations and management at the Air Force Squadron Officer School in 1974.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Theokas takes great pride in a lawsuit he filed against the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners. This case successfully persuaded the board to revise their procedures, resulting in stricter guidelines for the chairperson to prevent arbitrary dismissals based on personal biases. He also achieved success in felony cases, including one where a defendant initially sentenced to 70 to 92 months in prison and a $50,000 fine for methamphetamine trafficking had the verdict overturned on appeal by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, resulting in a significant victory. He attributes his accomplishments to persistence, determination, and compassion. He credits his mother for teaching him compassion through her interactions with others and his father for instilling a strong sense of determination and persistence, often saying, “It doesn’t get done by watching it.” Looking to the future, he is determined to run another marathon, having ran his first at the age of 55.
