He served as a partner at Schwartz Cooper Chartered from 1985 to 2008, and as an associate at Berger, Newmark, & Fenchel from 1982 to 1985. Throughout his career, he has contributed to notable publications, including “Asset Recovery” in Lawyers Monthly in 2014, “International Fraud Remedies” in the American Bankruptcy Institute in 2010, and “Crain’s Chicago Business” in 2008.

Mr. Rein also dedicates his time as a subcommittee chair for the Commercial Business Litigation Section of the American Bar Association and is actively involved with the National Association of Federal Equity Receivers, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees, and the Chicago Bar Association. Laying a solid foundation for his future success, Mr. Rein earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Washington University in St. Louis in 1978, followed by a Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law in 1981. His bar admissions include the State of Illinois, the State of Florida, the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals, the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals, the Northern District Court of Illinois, and the Eastern and Western District Courts of Michigan.

Reflecting on his career, Mr. Rein points out his mother’s significant role in inspiring her children to pursue successful careers. He decided to major in political science, a choice that paved the way for his eventual achievement of a law degree. His expertise in asset recovery developed from his work in creditor rights, representing financial institutions in loan enforcement and bankruptcy cases. In the early 1990s, he encountered a case involving a guarantor who had hidden assets abroad, prompting him to learn the complexities of international asset recovery. With assistance from a New York firm, he successfully recovered some funds and identified a financial advisor involved in the conspiracy. Recognizing the potential of this niche field, he proposed the concept of “international asset recovery” and collaborated with the New York firm. Together, they achieved a 100% success rate in recovering assets for domestic clients.

Mr. Rein takes great pride in establishing a successful reputation in international asset recovery. He attributes his success to his dedication, persistence, wealth of experience, strong network, and credibility. In the coming years, he is determined to further excel as a lawyer, broaden his knowledge and expertise in his current areas of practice, and take on new challenges to enhance his skills.
