Serving as an attorney at Reese & Reese Attorneys P.C., a role he has held since 1980, he represents “regular people with everyday problems,” with a focus on trial and litigation. He is dedicated to assisting children in critical situations, including child custody cases and family law matters, as well as personal injury cases, probate, and appellate work.
Before establishing his legal career, Mr. Reese was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967. He was deployed to serve in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1969, serving as a combat infantryman and small arms weapons specialist. He was part of the reconnaissance unit of the 173rd Airborne Brigade and volunteered as an officer at a long-range patrol company, Ranger Company.
Prior to embarking on his professional path, Mr. Reese pursued an education at Rhodes College, earning a Bachelor of Arts, followed by a Juris Doctor at Jones Law School. He was admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1980 and has since been admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Additionally, he is a member of the American Association for Justice, formerly American Trial Lawyers Association, the Alabama Association for Justice, the Alabama Bar Association and the Dale County Bar Association.
Mr. Reese attributes his success to his ability to always take the next step forward, regardless of adversities. Reflecting on his career, he says he entered the legal sphere to be engaged with people and make a difference. He was influenced by a family history in law, with his father being a lawyer and his great-grandfather serving as a lawyer and a judge. Through their examples, he realized that working in law was an effective mechanism for positive change. A highlight of his career is developing solutions that both compensate and remediate, which is the cornerstone of his practice.
Mr. Reese points out one such case where he represented a family whose child died in a train accident. While aiming to secure compensation for the family, the settlement also required the railroad company to implement corrective measures, including installing an automatic gate, clearing trees, and establishing a railroad crossing at the accident site. He takes great pride in his accomplishments as part of a collaborative team that secured compensation for the loss and implemented solutions to address the cause of the accident.
In the coming years, Mr. Reese intends to remain active in his professional organizations and continue excelling in his work. He aims to make more significant financial contributions to the causes he supports while advocating for the American justice and jury systems and the preservation of American freedoms. His ultimate goal is to make positive social changes that benefit society.
