Lora Denise Fowler, assistant district attorney at Shelby County District Attorney General’s Office, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in negotiations and jury trials.
With 21 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Fowler has excelled as assistant district attorney for the District Attorney General’s Office of Shelby County since 2002. In this capacity, she actively engages with the community, serving as the representative of the office in two distinct neighborhoods. Her responsibilities include providing counsel to law enforcement officers regarding charges and critical decisions, meticulously reviewing and authorizing charges recommended by officers to ensure their appropriateness, and regularly participating in joint agency community meetings.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Fowler pursued an education at Northwestern University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in cultural anthropology in 1998. She continued her academic efforts at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, graduating with a Juris Doctorate in 2001. In addition to her primary vocation, she remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She was a member of the American Bar Association.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Fowler has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She held the role of board member at the Frayser Community Development Corporation. She volunteered for the Youth Court Program, an informal diversion initiative where young individuals who have acknowledged their wrongdoing undergo a sentencing hearing led by a jury of their peers.
In light of her impressive undertakings, Ms. Fowler has accrued several accolades throughout her career. She was presented with the Civic Hero Award as well as an award from the Frayser Community Parent Teacher Student Association in acknowledgment of her steadfast leadership within the community and her “tireless effort and valuable role in building the Frayser Family in Memphis” in 2023. Furthermore, she received the Community Service Award from the Frayser Exchange Club Foundation Inc. and an award from the Shelby County Juvenile Court for volunteering for the Youth Court Program.
