Deborah Abramovsky, Retired Administrative Law Judge at the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership as a traffic judge.
In preparation for her career in the law, Ms. Abramovsky attended the State University of New York University at Buffalo, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1970. She continued her higher education at New York University, earning a Master of Arts in 1976. In 1981, Ms. Abramovsky concluded her studies at Pace University, graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence.
From 1996 until her retirement in 2007, Ms. Abramovsky worked as an administrative law judge with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. Prior to this position, she was a hearing officer with the New York City Parking Violations Bureau for two years and served as a partner with Abramovsky and Chikofsky for one year. In 1986, she was an associate with F. Lee Bailey and Aaron J. Broder, and in 1984 she worked in private practice in White Plains, New York. Ms. Abramovsky began her career in the law as an instructor for Touro College from 1981 to 1983 and an instructor for the University of Bridgeport from 1983 to 1984.
Ms. Abramovsky was admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York in 1986. She has been recognized for her accomplishments with an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest honor conferred by Marquis Who’s Who. To keep abreast of her field, she maintains affiliation with the New York State Bar Association, the Westchester County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
Ms. Abramovsky attributes her success to her family’s support, as she did not pursue law school until age 30, when she was already married and had a child. Her family, especially her husband, a law professor at Fordham Law School, encouraged her throughout this challenging time. Among her career achievements, Ms. Abramovsky is proudest of enjoying her work throughout her professional pursuits.
