Zhaoyang “Paul” Li, Esq., Partner at Taylor English Duma LLP and DLA Piper LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in intellectual property law.
Dr. Li prepared for his career in the law at Nankai University in Tianjin, China, graduating in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. He immigrated to the United States in 1990 and attended the University of South Carolina, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry in 1994. He concluded his higher education in 2000 at the Vanderbilt University School of Law, graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. Dr. Li has been admitted to practice law in the state of California and by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. In his current position, he prepares applications for patent registration and handles negotiations and licensing.
Since 2017, Dr. Li has found success as a partner with Taylor English Duma LLP. Additionally, he has been a partner with DLA Piper LLP since 2013, and previously, he served as a partner with Squire Sanders from 2003 to 2013. Recognized for his expertise, Dr. Li has been appointed by the United States Department of State as an expert speaker on intellectual property rights, and he was sent to multiple countries to speak on the subject, including Taiwan and Hong Kong. In addition to his primary roles, he also provides pro bono legal services for his church and community.
Dr. Li attributes his success to his attitude. He sees every challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow as a professional. As a patent attorney working with many inventors, he considers seeing his clients’ products enter the marketplace the highlight of his career. In the coming years, Dr. Li aspires to help even more people acquire patents and start their own businesses through his work.
