Since 2002, Mr. Lidstone has found success as the owner and an attorney at Burns, Figa & Will. The firm, which was formed in 1980, provides services in a variety of practice areas, including litigation, environmental law, professional ethics, regulation, real estate, water, business, securities, estate planning, oil, gas, and mining. At the firm, Mr. Lidstone collaborates with his fellow attorneys to provide the best service possible to each client.
During his current tenure, Mr. Lidstone was also the director of Kodiak Oil & Gas Inc. from 2006 to 2014. Prior to working at Burns, Figa & Will, he was the owner of Norton-Lidstone PC from 1998 to 2002, and since 2012 he has shared his expertise as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver. Alongside his primary professional pursuits, Mr. Lidstone has served on the executive committee of the business law section with the Colorado Bar Association and has been a member of the bar’s real estate section. He is additionally a published author in his field, co-authoring multiple works in 2015 for Continuing Legal Education in Colorado Inc.
Mr. Lidstone prepared for his career pursuits at Cornell University, where he studied from 1967 to 1971 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in economics. He subsequently served in the United States Navy from 1974 to 1975, and upon his return, he attended the University of Colorado, graduating in 1978 with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. Throughout his career, Mr. Lidstone has maintained affiliation with numerous professional associations related to his areas of expertise, including the Denver Bar Association, Colorado Bar Association, and American Bar Association, among others.
Becoming a lawyer because of the inspiration of his father, Mr. Lidstone attributes his success to his passion for his work. For his accomplishments, he earned the University of Colorado Law School Alumni Award for Private Practice in 2022, the Richard N. Doyle CLE Award of Excellence in 2019, and the Cathy Stricklin Krendl Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado Bar Award Business Law Section in 2018. He holds an AV Rating from Martindale-Hubbell and was also listed in Best Lawyers in 2002 as well as Super Lawyers. In the coming years, Mr. Lidstone plans to slow down his workload without retiring and would like to offer his expertise through consulting work and writing articles.
