Title: Owner
Company: LSLoftin Firm
Location: Carlsbad, California, United States
Linda Sue Loftin, Owner at LSLoftin Firm, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements and leadership in Real Estate, Business and Regulatory Law.
Ms. Loftin’s distinguished career in the legal industry spans more than four decades. Since 1980, she has served as the owner of LSLoftin Firm in Carlsbad, California, a practice she established as a sole proprietor. At the firm’s inception, Ms. Loftin made the deliberate decision to decline offers from the attorney general’s office and several large law firms, prioritizing her family over the demanding work schedules expected at those organizations. Over the years, she expanded her practice to address complex matters in real estate, business and regulatory law.
Throughout her tenure at LSLoftin Firm, Ms. Loftin has maintained a relatively small but effective team comprised of legal secretaries, paralegals, file clerks and finance personnel. Her approach has always emphasized quality over quantity in staffing while adapting to changing market conditions.
Notably, in 2019, Ms. Loftin welcomed her daughter as a shareholder after gaining experience at a major law firm specializing in real estate securities. While her daughter ultimately chose to focus on mobile home park law, Ms. Loftin continued to handle complex real estate litigation and serves as general counsel for several larger firms. In this capacity, she oversees local counsel hires and reviews occupancy documents and litigation matters.
Early experiences as a law clerk shaped Ms. Loftin’s legal focus and expertise. She clerked for both the attorney general’s office and public defenders before joining a family-owned firm where she assisted an owner with an interest in mobile home park law. Notably, Ms. Loftin contributed to the firm’s first appellate case under mobile home residency law (Palmer v. Agee), handled all motions during litigation against leading attorneys statewide, and prevailed in court, marking her introduction to litigation and mobile home park law.
Ms. Loftin’s educational background laid a strong foundation for her success in law. She earned a Bachelor of Arts at Oklahoma City University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from California Western School of Law in San Diego, California, in 1979. Ms. Loftin was admitted to practice by the California Bar Association.
Adding to her expertise, Ms. Loftin’s professional affiliations reflect her commitment to legal excellence and community engagement. She is an active member of the San Diego County Bar Association and has served as the co-chair of the real estate section for the North County Bar Association. Additionally, Ms. Loftin holds membership with The Irish American Bar Association of New York.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Ms. Loftin has demonstrated long-standing civic engagement across numerous organizations. Her volunteerism includes supporting East County San Diego Bar Association initiatives, mentoring seniors through bar association programs and serving on mediation panels. She previously served as a board member of the California Ballet Board for three decades and held leadership roles and supported various theater organizations, including The Brook Theatre, the Sunshine Theater and several North County small theaters. Additionally, Ms. Loftin contributed to New Village Arts as a board member and the Girls Club as a past president.
A defining milestone in Ms. Loftin’s career occurred in 2007 when she represented residents in the acquisition of Capistrano Shores Mobile Home Park. She managed all litigation with the city and the Coastal Commission throughout this highly complex transaction. Despite widespread skepticism about the feasibility of such a purchase, Ms. Loftin’s efforts culminated in a successful $100 million sale for 90 spaces, an achievement widely regarded as unprecedented within her field.
However, the economic downturn that came soon after in 2008 presented significant challenges for Ms. Loftin and her firm. During this period, she represented major developers such as Lennar and Brookside. The sudden halt in real estate development led to a complete loss of revenue and substantial debt for her practice. Demonstrating resilience and commitment to her team, Ms. Loftin utilized personal retirement funds and secured a home equity loan to sustain operations. She reduced her staff from approximately 25 employees to about a dozen and relocated the firm from the UTC area to Carlsbad.
Ms. Loftin’s tenure in law has been recognized through numerous honors, including Distinguished Lawyer and Top 100 Lawyers, recognition among the top two attorneys in real estate statewide and a California Senate Award. For her commitments to the community, she received two California Assembly Awards for contributions to performing arts, multiple New Village Arts Awards, and several California Ballet Awards.
Rooted in Hugo, Oklahoma, Ms. Loftin credits her classical upbringing for shaping her values of hard work, education and faith, principles reinforced by both family influence and cultural environment during her formative years. She attributes much of her professional success to these early lessons that emphasized perseverance despite adversity.
Looking ahead, Ms. Loftin seeks to continue sharing her story through bar association involvement and speaking engagements as an attorney. She believes that anyone can achieve their goals through diligence and optimism rather than expecting success without effort, a philosophy rooted deeply in her own journey from humble beginnings to professional distinction in law.
