Mr. Moore has established an esteemed career in corporate and intellectual property law, garnering recognition for his expertise and leadership across several prominent institutions. Since 2011, he has operated as the owner of K Square Law, where he functions as a solo practitioner. This structure allows Mr. Moore to maintain direct oversight of his legal practice, focusing on delivering high-quality counsel while utilizing contract accounting assistance to efficiently manage financial operations without the need for full-time staff.
Prior to founding K Square Law, Mr. Moore found much success as counsel at the Whitehead Institute from 1981 to 2013. In this capacity, he provided legal guidance to one of the nation’s leading biomedical research organizations, contributing to its mission through his deep understanding of intellectual property and corporate law.
From 1985 to 2011, Mr. Moore excelled as a partner at Ropes & Gray LLP, a global law firm headquartered in Boston. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in advising clients on complex legal matters related to corporate transactions and intellectual property protection. His earlier experience at Ropes & Gray LLP began as an associate from 1976 to 1985, where he developed foundational skills that would underpin his later achievements.
In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Moore has demonstrated a commitment to education and governance. He worked as an adjunct professor at the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law in 2014, sharing his knowledge with future legal professionals. From 2004 to 2009, he served as board member and treasurer for Lexington Montessori School, overseeing financial stewardship and supporting educational initiatives.
Mr. Moore’s professional affiliations include membership in the American Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Boston Bar Association. He is also associated with the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and Sigma Xi, underscoring his engagement with both legal and scientific communities. As the first chairman of the Committee on Technology and Intellectual Property — now known as the Cyber & Technology Law Committee — of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Mr. Moore has been instrumental in shaping policy at the intersection of law and technology.
Mr. Moore’s academic background laid a strong foundation for his career achievements. His undergraduate studies culminated in a Bachelor of Science in astrophysics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge in 1973. He subsequently graduated with a Juris Doctor in banking, corporate, finance and securities law from Harvard Law School in Cambridge in 1976. The decision to pursue law was influenced by thoughtful guidance from his wife’s mother during his senior year at Massachusetts Institute of Technology when he was weighing options between law school and graduate studies in physics.
Mr. Moore’s dedication to higher education is further reflected in his service as a member of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Corporation from 2003 to 2008. He contributed to institutional advancement through participation in the MIT Corporation Development Committee from 2017 to 2021. Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. Moore is civically engaged with several cultural and educational organizations, including the Metropolitan Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Museum of Fine Arts Boston.
