Ms. Dorman has established a notable career in law and mediation, marked by her expertise in divorce mediation and her unwavering commitment to public service. Since 2023, she has served as a certified divorce mediator and parent coordinator at Dorman Mediation Services LLC. In this capacity, Ms. Dorman facilitates negotiations between divorcing couples, advocates for the interests of children in custody disputes, and mediates conflicts between parents regarding parenting arrangements. Her responsibilities also include conducting legal research and writing for court cases, representing minors in juvenile delinquency matters, prosecuting various criminal cases, and collaborating with legal professionals and social services. Furthermore, Ms. Dorman ensures compliance with court orders, provides guidance to clients throughout the mediation process and maintains accurate documentation of agreements.

As a parent coordinator, Ms. Dorman is selected by attorneys or parties to address high-conflict co-parenting relationships. She steps in when ambiguities in agreements become sources of dispute, working to clarify and resolve these issues through careful listening, addressing concerns and applying judgment grounded in fairness. Ms. Dorman’s background includes significant experience working in a matrimonial part for a judge, where she settled hundreds of cases by identifying the real sources of conflict, utilizing the authority of the court when necessary and drawing on her ability to mediate effectively.

Before establishing Dorman Mediation Services LLC, Ms. Dorman was a principal court attorney for the New York State Unified Court System from 2009 to 2023. In this position, she provided legal counsel regarding matrimonial cases, leading approximately 400 contested matrimonial and post-judgment marital actions. Additionally, Ms. Dorman played a crucial role in consolidating family court proceedings.

Earlier, Ms. Dorman spent over 10 years as an attorney for children on the appellate division and as a second department attorney for the children panel within the New York State Unified Court System, starting in 1998. She represented minors in family court proceedings involving juvenile delinquency accusations, persons in need of supervision designations and matrimonial conflicts. Through this work, Ms. Dorman developed a keen ability to look beyond surface-level explanations and recognize deeper causes behind children’s behavior.

From 1992 to 1998, Ms. Dorman was a counsel at the Office of the Welfare Inspector General for the State of New York, where she investigated welfare fraud and ensured compliance with state regulations. She also practiced law at Larry Dorman PC between 1991 and 1998, handling a variety of legal matters simultaneously.

Ms. Dorman began her legal career at the Queens County District Attorney’s Office. Initially hired as a prosecutor for the criminal court bureau, she subsequently became a prosecutor for the grand jury bureau and then the trial bureau. From 1983 to 1987, Ms. Dorman worked as an assistant district attorney, prosecuting cases in the trial bureau, grand jury bureau and criminal court bureau. Her work included prosecuting misdemeanors and felonies, as well as advocating for the rights of victims.

Ms. Dorman’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and government from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She continued her education at New England Law in Boston, Massachusetts, earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1983. During law school, she completed an internship at the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office in Boston, which solidified her interest in pursuing a legal career focused on advocacy and public service. Ms. Dorman holds certification as a certified divorce mediator.

Adding to her expertise, Ms. Dorman is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Academy of Professional Family Mediators, the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation, the National Association of Divorce Professionals LLC and the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals. Her commitment to community service includes serving as the president of her local Parent-Teacher Association at both the middle school and New Rochelle High School. Ms. Dorman has also supported the Martin L. King Jr. Memorial Day Care Center Inc., reflecting her dedication to helping youth development.

Eager for future success, Ms. Dorman is interested in teaching, inspired by her positive experiences mentoring interns from high school through law school during judicial internship programs. She believes that teaching law would be most meaningful if accompanied by judicial prestige reflecting her ongoing commitment to education, mentorship and public service.
