Veronica K. Contreras, president and owner of Veronica K. Contreras, P.C., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in data protection and cybersecurity.
Initially inspired by seeing the film “A Few Good Men” at the impressionable age of 10, Ms. Contreras has built an esteemed legal career across nearly 25 years. Her professional life began as an attorney for Hologic Inc., a women’s health organization. Continuing to grow her skills with compliance and medical law, Ms. Contreras contributed as a global medical affairs attorney consultant at Shire HGT and senior manager of corporate compliance at Biogen. She then shifted into the field of data security, becoming associate counsel and data privacy officer at MultiPlan Corporation.
Ms. Contreras experienced a major turning point in her career while serving as a data privacy officer and counsel with ERT, a clinical technology company. During her time there, and in the midst of the complications of the COVID-19 pandemic, ERT suffered from a ransomware attack. In order to successfully bounce back from this incident, Ms. Contreras and her team had to put in 18-hour days, including on weekends. She provided essential guidance, leadership and support, working hard to keep her colleagues’ spirits up as they worked through one of the most challenging scenarios they had ever encountered. The ideas that Ms. Contreras initiated during this time were later adopted by other departments at ERT, as it became clear how useful they were to keeping employees engaged and thinking positively at a difficult time.
Following her achievements at ERT, Ms. Contreras established her own company, Veronica K. Contreras, P.C., where she has served as president since 2021. Through this organization, she helps clients in maintaining compliance with regulations and data security to keep customers safe. Ms. Contreras collaborates with businesses across industries and of varying sizes, tailoring her services to the specific needs of each client. She also keeps updated on the latest technological advancements, including the quickly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) and new regulations springing up around it.
Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, Ms. Contreras set a foundation with her education. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002. Subsequently, Ms. Contreras earned a Juris Doctor from Cooley Law School in 2007. Committed to aiding others in their academic path as well, she has stepped into the role of adjunct professor since 2014 at the New England Institute of Business at Cambridge College.
Well-regarded for her contributions to her field, Ms. Contreras has been a prolific writer and speaker throughout her professional life. In 2020, she gave a speech on patient data in health care at the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Health Law Institute Conference, and another on cybersecurity and data privacy at the Drug Information Association’s Digital Technology in Clinical Trials Conference. Ms. Contreras has also presented to the American Medical Writers Association. She won the Outstanding Leadership Award from the Law 2.0 Conference in 2022 and was featured in the magazine CIO Look in 2025.
A lover of music, Ms. Contreras enjoys attending concerts, dancing, singing and playing the guitar outside of work hours. As she moves into the future, she continues to focus on the success and sustained growth of Veronica K. Contreras, P.C. To achieve this goal, Ms. Contreras is planning significant marketing efforts and community events to make more people aware of what the company can offer. She envisions becoming an even more acknowledged leader at the intersection of the law and life sciences, while continuing to grow her expertise in such new areas as wells, finances and technology.
