Mr. Greenfeld has established a distinguished career in the field of law, with a particular focus on patent litigation and intellectual property law. Currently serving as of counsel at Susman Godfrey LLP since 2022, he is responsible for enforcing clients’ patent rights and defending them against infringement accusations. Mr. Greenfeld’s expertise extends to writing patent applications and preparing opinions on patent validity and infringement.
Before being acquired by Susman Godfrey LLP in New York City, Mr. Greenfeld held the same title at Steptoe & Johnson LLP, also in New York City, from 2014 to 2022, where he focused his practice on intellectual property law.
Mr. Greenfeld’s career trajectory also included significant roles at several other prestigious law firms. Between 2010 and 2014, he served as an of counsel at Mayer Brown, where he further developed his legal acumen. Before that, he was a partner at Pearl Cohen Zedek Latzer from 2009 to 2010 and McDermott Will and Emery from 2005 to 2009. It was during his tenure at McDermott Will & Emery that Mr. Greenfeld won a significant jury trial involving the licensing of modems, resulting in a favorable verdict that was recognized as a notable accomplishment.
Earlier in his professional journey, Mr. Greenfeld worked as an attorney at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP from 2004 to 2005 and at Kaye Scholer LLP starting in 2000. He began his tenure in law as an attorney with Baker Botts/Brumbaugh, Graves, Donohue & Raymond from 1996 to 2000, following a stint as a law clerk to the Honorable Roger Andewelt at the U.S. Court of Federal Claims between 1995 and 1996. Before entering the legal profession, Mr. Greenfeld gained valuable experience as a member of the technical staff at AT&T, Bell Laboratories and Nokia.
Mr. Greenfeld’s educational background laid a strong foundation for his successful career. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering and bioelectrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1986, a Master of Science in engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence, cum laude, from New York University in 1995. Additionally, Mr. Greenfeld holds a professional engineer certification in electrical engineering from the State of New York.
Throughout his career, Mr. Greenfeld has been actively involved in various industry-related organizations, including the New York State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the New York Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. His commitment to civic engagement is evident through his pro bono work with veterans and neighborhood associations, as well as his efforts to set up trusts for older adults. Moreover, Mr. Greenfeld contributes to education by coaching and judging mock trials and moot court competitions for New York City public schools.
