Mr. Ward, a leading associate at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP in Houston, a global law firm headquartered in Philadelphia, joined his firm in 2021. Focusing his practice on complex commercial litigation in state and federal courts, including insurance recovery, toxic torts and product liability, he is also well-versed in white-collar criminal investigations, antitrust matters and securities litigation. Beyond his primary legal expertise, Mr. Ward has begun focusing on broadening his practice, particularly in commercial general liability and insurance.
Before joining Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, Mr. Ward spent five years as a judicial law clerk with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, beginning in 2016. He also served as a summer associate and associate at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in Palo Alto, California, and in the same capacities at Vedder Price PC in Chicago, dating back to 2013. Moreover, Mr. Ward clerked for the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations in Washington, D.C., in 2011 and for the Office of the Chief Judge, The Honorable Edmund Ponce de Leon, in Maywood, Illinois, from 2009 to 2010. Each of these roles was instrumental in his professional development, providing him with the necessary experience to continue advancing in the legal realm.
After receiving a diploma from Saint Joseph High School in 2007, Mr. Ward earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and African studies at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, in 2011. While pursuing his undergraduate degree, he served as a university archives student assistant, residential counselor and community assistant on campus from 2008 to 2011. Subsequently, Mr. Ward completed a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Chicago in 2014. He has been admitted to practice by the California, Florida and Texas Bar Associations.
To remain at the forefront of his professional community, Mr. Ward is an active member of the Houston Young Lawyers Association. He is also affiliated with the National Black Law Students Association and the Latino Law School Association.
Mr. Ward has given back his time and experience by serving his community as a tutor at Hope High School, encouraging the youth to strive for excellence. Most notably, he has been represented Affirming YOUth since 2017 as a co-founder, secretary and member of the board of directors. Formed alongside several friends, the South Florida-based nonprofit charitable organization provides mental health counseling services to adolescents up to the age of 18, collaborating with the federal government and the State of Florida. Additionally, Affirming YOUth offers tutoring services to support the educational needs of the youth.
In recognition of his hard work and perseverance, Mr. Ward won the Practice Group of the Year for Insurance on behalf of his law firm in 2020 by Law360. He credits much of his professional success to his mother, who consistently encouraged him to excel in school and strive for his full potential.
Beyond his legal pursuits, Mr. Ward is dedicated to expanding his nonprofit organization and creating opportunities for underprivileged youth. He looks forward to a bright future representing clients as they navigate the legal system while inspiring the next generation of leaders to be the best they can be.
