Mr. Oster is an established attorney and partner at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in New York City, a premier national law firm specializing in litigation, consumer financial services, corporate and business law, environmental, health care law, and several other legal areas. As an expert in appeals, civil litigation and real estate transactions, he focuses his practice primarily on real estate and foreclosure matters, including distressed properties, settlement negotiations and evictions. Moreover, he frequently collaborates with institutional clients regarding regulatory developments while assisting them in implementing compliance policies.
Before joining Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in 2024, Mr. Oster excelled as a senior associate and director of litigation at LOGS Legal Group LLP f/K/A Shapiro, DiCaro & Barak LLC, a full-service financial services law firm in Rochester, New York, starting in 2008. He began his legal career working for RJS Abstract Corporation, a title insurance company in Western New York in the town of Fairport.
Throughout his legal career, Mr. Oster’s commitment and perseverance have led to favorable outcomes for his clients, both in court and through successful case settlements. He has been recognized for over 40 published appellate victories across all four departments within the New York appellate division. Mr. Oster has also been credited with representing thousands of clients in trial court, particularly regarding foreclosure and real estate matters, and continues to appear in courts throughout the state.
In preparation for his legal career, Mr. Oster received a Bachelor of Arts in politics with a minor in philosophy, magna cum laude, from The Catholic University of America in 2003 and a Master of Arts in politics on campus that same year. Subsequently, he received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Cornell University in 2006. While pursuing his law degree, Mr. Oster gained experience clerking for the Center for Individual Rights and the Republican Governors Association in Washington, D.C. He also served as the events editor for the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy. Mr. Oster was admitted to practice by the New York Bar Association and the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Western Districts of New York.
Mr. Oster remains active in his professional community as a prominent member of the New York State Bar Association. His activity in the organization allows him to network with like-minded individuals while remaining at the forefront of his niche area of law.
Mr. Oster’s success and tenure in the field have earned him several accolades, including an Excellence in Civil Litigation from Lawyers of Distinction in 2019.
