Since 2015, he has served as head of chambers at International Arbitration Chambers New York, where he demonstrates his expertise as lead counsel while managing teams and arguing complex international commercial and investment arbitration cases. In addition to these responsibilities, Mr. Parvanov has handled sports-related disputes involving high-profile entities through his practice, most of which are resolved through the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland.
Founding International Arbitration Chambers New York in 2014 while simultaneously excelling as principal until 2022, Mr. Parvanov was active as an attorney and senior researcher to the Chief Reporter on the Restatement of the Law (III) of International Commercial and Investor-State Arbitration, Prof. George Bermann at the American Law Institute from 2012 to 2014, a coach for the championship team of Columbia Law School at the International Arbitration Competition in Hong Kong in 2012, and adjunct lecturer on international arbitration at the International Arbitration Training & Assistance Institute and the Fordham Law School from 2013 to 2014. He also worked as an associate in James H. Carter’s international arbitration group at Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP from 2011 to 2013, and in the international arbitration group at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP in Paris from 2011 to 2012, as well as serving as a clerk at the Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York, in 2011 and positions as a summer associate at WilmerHale in 2010 and as an associate at Arsov Natchev Ganeva LLP in Sofia, Bulgaria, from 2005 to 2008.
Mr. Parvanov’s educational background is extensive and impressive as tailored specifically to the practice of international law and international arbitration. His versatile expertise combines U.S., English, and the EU continental Civil Law traditions. He earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence, with honors, from Columbia Law School in 2011, where he was presented with a scholar award for his academic achievements and a legal writing award from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Prior to this, he completed a Master of Laws at Columbia Law School in 2009 and a Master of Laws focusing on English law of international arbitration and international business law at The London School of Economics and Political Science in 2005. Mr. Parvanov earned his Civil Law degree at the “St. Klement Ohridsky” University of Sofia, where he graduated with a Magister Juris degree in 2004.
Mr. Parvanov has also contributed to his field through several notable publications in the field of international law and international arbitration, including “The Dearest Arbitration (The ‘Belene’ Arbitration Proceedings and What They Will Revolve Around)” in 2013, “Comparing U.S. Law and Recent U.S. Investment Agreements: Much More Similar Than You Might Expect” in 2011, and “The Hidden Duality of the Summary Disposition of Claims in Investment Arbitration” in 2011. Additionally, he is an active member of professional organizations throughout the United States and Europe, including the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, Sofia Bar Association, Supreme Bar Council of the Republic of Bulgaria, and the Federal Bar Association, Southern District of New York chapter.
Mr. Parvanov attributes his success to the unwavering support of his wife, who encouraged him to pursue professional training in the United States. His legal education at Columbia University, which emphasized analytical reasoning over rote memorization, and his personal experiences have provided a rich perspective on international issues.
