Mickey Benally, associate judge at the White Mountain Apache Tribal Court, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal services.

Mr. Benally is an established attorney and associate judge representing the White Mountain Apache Tribal Court in Whiteriver, Arizona, since 2020. As part of his responsibilities as a judge in the tribal court, he conducts frequent hearings and signs various court documents as second in charge beneath the chief judge. Since joining the team, Mr. Benally has been instrumental in helping rebuild public trust in the tribal court system. By collaborating with the new chief judge, they were able to focus on numerous initiatives, including those that would benefit the youth and simultaneously hinder crime. Mr. Benally’s expertise in tribal, civil, criminal, and juvenile law has been pivotal to his success.

Before joining the Tribal Court, Mr. Benally clerked for Navajo County from 2019 to 2020, served as a legal extern for the White Mountain Apache Office of the Attorney General in 2019, and was an extern for White Mountain Apache Legal Services and White Mountain Apache Tribe Legal Office in 2017. Before passing the bar, Mr. Benally garnered experience as a public health emergency preparedness coordinator for the White Mountain Apache Tribe Division of Health between 2015 and 2016 and a juvenile prosecution assistant for the White Mountain Apache Tribal Prosecution Unit via the Workforce Investment Act in 2015. These roles set the foundation for his future career as both an attorney and judge.

Mr. Benally holds a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Utah Valley University since 2015 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Brigham Young University since 2019. Besides his work-related accomplishments, he has been active in his community through volunteer roles with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and as a distinguished member of the White Mountain Apache reservation. Eager for the future of his career, Mr. Benally attributes much of his success to the support of his parents, several close friends, and a fellow attorney who previously worked with the tribe. Notably recognized as the first locally trained law judge to be appointed to the White Mountain Apache Tribal Court and the youngest ever to assume this role, Mr. Benally remains steadfast about continually enhancing court operations and positively impacting the community in the future.
