With over two and a half decades of experience, Mr. Beconcini has established a successful career in legal services, specializing in IP and IP law in China. He currently excels as a lecturer in law at USC Gould, a position he has held since 2024, and head of intellectual property and anti-counterfeiting team, China and APAC region, at Squire Patton Boggs since 2012. In this capacity, he leads a team of Chinese attorneys, IP investigators, and analysts, overseeing the filing and prosecution of IP rights in China and managing a large trademark and design portfolio for U.S. and European Union MNCs. His experience also includes serving as an associate at Schulz Noack Bärwinkel from 2006 to 2012, an associate at Trevisan & Cuonzo Avvocati from 2004 to 2005, and an associate at Carroll, Burdick & McDonough LLP from 1998 to 2003.

Mr. Beconcini laid a solid educational foundation, earning a Bachelor of Arts from the Università degli Studi di Firenze and a diploma from the Istituto di Istruzione Superiore Alberti-Dante. He furthered his legal education with a Master of Laws in Intellectual Property Law from the Università degli Studi di Firenze in 1997 and a Master of Laws in United States Entertainment Law from the University of Southern California in 2018. He has dedicated his time as an external consultant on IP matters for the Royal Danish Embassy in Beijing since 2013, IP consultant for the Benelux Chamber of Commerce in China since 2012, and guest lecturer at Cornell Law School, University of Southern California, New York University, Pepperdine University, and the University of Strasbourg. He has served as an anti-counterfeiting consultant for Interpol’s Illicit Trafficking and Anti-Counterfeiting Division, and as a consultant for the Italian Customs Police and the Danish Patent and Trademark Office on China IP-related matters.

Additionally, Mr. Beconcini was a member of the INTA Design Subcommittee from 2022 to 2024, and the INTA Anti-Counterfeiting Committee. He serves as a China expert consultant for the National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance and is on the Advisory Board of the Global Chamber Los Angeles. Additionally, he has authored numerous articles and publications on intellectual property law, focusing particularly on developments in China. His works have been featured in prominent legal journals and publications such as IP Litigator, The Licensing Journal, and UIC Review of Intellectual Property Law. He has written extensively on topics including trademark infringement, trade secrets, and design patents in China, with notable pieces addressing issues such as parallel importation of cosmetics, the metaverse’s impact on design patents, and recent trends in Chinese trademark law. His contributions have been influential in shaping discourse on IP protection, particularly in the context of Chinese legal reforms and international trade agreements.

Mr. Beconcini has a proven track record in patent and trademark infringement lawsuits, including landmark cases recognized as Case of the Year by multiple IP journals. He is frequently interviewed by global media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, CNN, BBC, The Times, Bloomberg, La Tribune, and Il Sole 24 Ore for his expertise on China IP matters and is also listed in the WTR 1000 as one of the World’s Leading Trademark Professionals for China. His accolades include being named an Ambassador for the IP Business Academy at the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies in 2024, recognized as a Leader by World Intellectual Property Review in 2022, 2023, and 2024, and honored as the Best Foreign Expert on China Intellectual Property by WTR 1000 in 2020. Additionally, he was ranked among the Top Foreign Attorneys Specializing in China Intellectual Property by World Trademark Review in 2019.
