Elise S. Feldman, senior counsel at the U.S. Department of Justice, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal services.
With two and a half decades of experience to her credit, Ms. Feldman has established a successful career in legal services, specializing in environmental enforcement and litigation. She currently excels as senior counsel at the U.S. Department of Justice, a position she has held since 1999. Her experience also includes associate at Rath Young Pignatelli from 1993 to 1999, and judicial law clerk at the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire from 1992 to 1993. Laying a solid educational foundation, she earned a Bachelor of Ars in literature, graduating cum laude, from Harvard University in 1988, followed by a Juris Doctor from Austin College Law School in 1992. Additionally, she has been admitted to the Massachusetts Bar and New Hampshire Bar and is a past member of the Bar Association of San Francisco.
Reflecting on her path, Ms. Feldman has garnered recognition for her exceptional coordination of national residential lead-based paint cases. Through extensive involvement with US attorney offices and agencies and her personal passion for the project, she addressed the impact of residential lead-based paint exposure on children. Additionally, she takes pride in her involvement in the Eagle-Picher bankruptcy, during which she was responsible for bringing super funded sites to trial or settlement negotiations. In light of her impressive undertakings, she has been honored with the Special Achievement Award by the U.S. Department of Justice in 2024, the Silver Medal for Superior Service by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2013, the National Notable Achievement Award from the EPA in 2013 and the Bronze Medal from the EPA in 2005.
Ms. Feldman attributes her success to her unwavering dedication to her work, as she genuinely enjoys the intricate nature of environmental statutes and the process of unraveling solutions to associated challenges. Additionally, she takes great pride in working at the Department of Justice, as it places her at the center of key developments involving an array of influential cases, making it an engaging and dynamic environment that allows her to stay current in the field. In the coming years, she aspires to address a broader range of conflicts and pursue adjunct teaching to share her knowledge and insights with the next generation.
