With over a decade and a half of experience, Mr. Johnston has established a successful career in legal services, specializing in litigation, disputes, HOA representation, and small business representation. He currently serves as the founding partner and chief executive officer of JVAM PLLC, a role he has held since 2021, where he represents 37 HOA clients in Colorado, offering guidance on various taxes and laws. His practice also includes representing contractors, subcontractors, engineers, and architects, as well as advising businesses on mergers and acquisitions, employment matters, and government issues. His previous roles include partner at Balcomb & Green P.C. from 2017 to 2021, attorney at Balcomb & Green P.C. from 2015 to 2016, senior litigation associate at Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP from 2011 to 2015, judicial clerk for Chief Justice William Ray Price Jr. at the Supreme Court of Missouri from 2010 to 2011, and special assistant circuit attorney in the Office of the Circuit Attorney in 2010. He also served as an associate at Hunton & Williams LLP from 2008 to 2009 and as treasurer of Balcomb & Green P.C. He has dedicated time as a board member and donor for Wilderness Workshop, a member of the Young Lawyers Section Executive Council, a pro bono volunteer with AmeriCorps, and a board member at River Valley Ranch.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Johnston was named a Super Lawyer in 2015, recognized on the Dean’s List at the University of Missouri School of Law from 2006 to 2008, and on the Dean’s List at William Jewell College from 2002 to 2005. He has received Martindale Hubbell’s Client Champion Award, the Pro Bono Service Award from the 9th District Bar Association, and the Young Lawyer Award. Laying a strong educational foundation, he earned a bachelor of science in business administration and management from William Jewell College in 2005 and a juris doctor from the University of Missouri School of Law in Columbia in 2008, where he served as associate editor of the Law Review from 2007 to 2008.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Johnston found success in law school, leading him to join the global firm Hunton & Williams LLP in New York, where he represented buyers and sellers in mergers and acquisitions. After leaving the firm, he joined AmeriCorps and taught first grade before becoming a partner in a new firm’s litigation and corporate divisions. Their new firm grew rapidly, eventually merging with a firm established for 50 years, which led to expansion and attracting talented professionals to join the team.
Mr. Johnston attributes his success to the unwavering commitment and guidance of his father, a dedicated lawyer, and his godfather. His financial acumen has also enabled him to seize opportunities that might have otherwise been missed, while his focus on fostering meaningful relationships has strengthened both his personal and professional ties. In the coming years, he plans to expand JVAM further, with a strong emphasis on upholding its core values. His vision is to see JVAM grow into a leading global law firm renowned for integrity, a positive work culture, and a commitment to psychological well-being. In the coming months, JVAM will launch new branches, supported by a steady influx of legal professionals and support staff.
